Video provided through Babcock RanchBy now you are probably familiar with the neighborhoods in South West Florida. They include Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Estero, Alva, Bonita Springs and Naples but a new town is already underway. Babock Ranch will be the first Solar Powered City in the United States. 440 acres of solar panels will stretch across the town. 18,000 acres will make up the town and is located in the middle of a nature preserve. Over 50% of the town's footprint is reserved for green spaces; not including the 73,000 acre preserve the town will be surrounded by. Babcock Ranch wants to remain water conscious by limiting turf coverage to 30% of residential lots and requiring homeowners to use native, low impact trees and shrubs for at least 75% of their landscaping. With the combination of both the Solar Power and water conservation, residents will minimize their environmental footprint with no additional cost. All of the architecture of the town and homes will receive a Bronze Standard of Certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition. 

The community will feature community gardens and on-sight farming supporting the farm-to-table movement. Each neighborhood will have their own community garden that will allow residents to have their own locally sourced food. On site mining operations will also provide local materials for fill and road aggregate. Even sod is from the community sod garden. 

Babcock Ranch is striving for transportation alternatives. The way the town will be very walkable putting shopping, schools, and services in a network of walking trails and bike paths to decrease the need for motor vehicles. Electric Powered, self-driving shuttles will also be running on set routes. 

The community will touch on every aspect of the environment and definitions of a city such as health, education, energy, technology, transportation, storm safety and of course FUN! There will be community wide access to free Wifi. Each home will also have access to Centurylink services. While Babcock Ranch is still only in it's phase, they have already implemented it's first restaurant, Table & Tap. Farm to table meals are prepared by Chef David. Slaters Goods & Provisions are also coming to Babcock Ranch and will feature a farm-fresh organic menu as well as packaged wine and liquor. There is also an ice cream shop, urban outfitters clothing store and a collaborative space where people can come together to work on ideas. The state of the art health and wellness center will be opening in 2018. On top of all that there are plenty to do as a way of recreation. Featuring Canoe, Kayak and Paddleboard Launches, a neighborhood Lakehouse, Playgrounds, Fishing Docks, Fitness Classes, Boardwalk, Dog Parks, Hiking Trails, and other events there should never be a shortage of things to do. 

Babcock Ranch homes are priced from the mid $300,000's but will have some twin villas priced under $200,000. Most of their homes have a Key West Style / Old Florida Feel.
