Have you heard about Emerge?
Last weekend, I attended Emerge conference at Said Business School, in Oxford.
Emerge is a conference about social innovation that brings together people who are interested in making this world a better place. This conference gives you the opportunity to explore the issues you care about through various experiences - It combines lectures, practical sessions, networking sessions, film screenings and debates in a single conference!
I found Emerge on Facebook. As someone interested in new business models that can deliver social value, I signed up for this conference. I'm glad I did it!
This year's conference brought us issues like the role of business in sustainable development, impact investing, circular economy, human trafficking, migrations, systems thinking and using tech for good. All these sessions had professionals who work with these issues.
In the opening plenary, Andy Middleton discussed the fact that nowadays we can complete our education without solving or even knowing the problems that affect today's society.
The solution to the world's problems is far from being simple. It is clear that collaboration between governments, businesses, and third sector can foster development. However, people often find it hard to understand what is being done in these sectors in terms of sustainable development and social innovation.
More than providing me insights on the latest trends in social innovation, attending Emerge allowed me to meet inspiring people who challenge the boundaries of established structures in order to build a sustainable future.
If you are interested in social innovation, I strongly advise you to attend the next Emerge conference!
