Have You Heard About 3/4 Pointe?
Yamile Anaid Navarro Luna
Freelance Dancer, Choreographer and Dance Teacher. Mindset Advisor.
When it comes to pointe work, dancers often dream of the elegance and grace associated with being fully en pointe. However, one crucial stage often goes unnoticed—the 3/4 pointe. Positioned between half pointe and full pointe, the 3/4 pointe is the final stepping stone before lifting oneself on full pointe work.
Surprisingly, many dancers skip this essential stage in their training, unaware of the profound benefits. Focusing on the 3/4 pointe not only lays a solid foundation for pointe work but also enhances jumps, overall footwork, and alignment.
The 4Pointe technique, developed by pioneer Lynne Charles, dedicates a significant portion of its practice to 3/4 pointe exercises. These carefully crafted exercises strengthen the intrinsic muscles of the foot, improve ankle mobility, and fine-tune the alignment of the foot, leg, and hip. The result? Dancers who feel more confident, resilient, and artistically free both on and off pointe.
If you’re struggling with pointe work, feeling frustrated, or questioning whether pointe is for you, focusing on 3/4 pointe might be the missing piece to your journey.
I’m thrilled to announce that starting in 2025, I’ll be offering 4Pointe Online Private Classes tailored to ballet dancers, ballroom dancers, and anyone looking to improve their pointe work or overall foot health. These personalized Zoom classes focus on strengthening, mobility and alignment work to help you achieve faster and more meaningful results.
