Have you ever tried hiking in high heels?

Have you ever tried hiking in high heels?

The other week, we received an unexpected call from someone interested in enrolling in our CIPD L5 course. I said NO ?

Here's why

Studying is like a pair of shoes; when you want to go on a hike, you can wear anything you want, but your choices can make it a lot easier or a lot harder.

Imaging climbing a mountain in high heels, for example, instead of a pair of walking boots.

When choosing a study provider, it's a bit like choosing hiking footwear: You need to find a pair that makes you feel comfortable going through some challenging terrain. Balancing study, work, social life, and maybe kids can be a really tricky balance, and sometimes it will be tough.

So when the call came in out of the blue asking to enrol, we said no, but we did set them up on a trial of our first unit for the next 14 days. Our trial is the first unit of the actual course, so your progress is saved. When you know for certain we are the right fit, you can enroll with us.

Other providers may take your money and run, but studying is a big deal for many people, and a failed study attempt can set people back years in their careers. So we won't just take your money and run; we will ensure you're comfortable with our approach before enrolling.

CIPD L5 syllabus update in 60 seconds

5CO03 - Professional behaviours and valuing people

They have changed the learner-facing wording on the questions, but the marking questions are exactly the same word for word. Basically, it is a costume change.

5CO01 - Organisational performance and culture in practice

The same as 5CO03, but they had the learning facing question asked you in one question to look at Handy's model instead of Schein. Marking questions are exactly the same word-for-word.

5CO02 - Evidence-based practice

Questions are the same, but the data you are given to answer them has changed. It is like switching a leg or lamb for a round of beef, but it feels different because the main data has changed.

5HR01 - Employment relationship management

16 questions down to 10 HUGE change and a much better now you have 390 words per question instead of 275, so your answers can be richer and more detailed. BIG POSITIVE CHANGE

5HR02 - Talent management and workforce planning

15 questions down to 10 massive changes, but be careful of the ONCE UPON A TIME... The learner-facing part of these questions has long introductions before they get to the point.

(A little like when my wife tells me a story)

5HR03 - Reward for performance and contribution

12 questions down to 10 fewer duplication questions are clean and easy to follow, but look out for 'The Cheeky S' where CIPD add a s to parts of the question, so you have to give multiple examples.

CIPD Courses with a NEW and improved recipe.

All the business books say this is wrong; none of the other providers do it this way. Why? There has been a ton of work over the last month. We have rebuilt three units from the ground up. Why?

Because CIPD launched some new assessments

With assessment-focused learning, we ensure our content matches the assessment. We need to build a load of academic resources on the topic and then change the assessment. When it changes, we ensure you can make small, consistent progression steps, minimise your need to relearn topics and take away the huge pressure of the big scary assessment.

Here is how most courses look:

C = Content

A = Assessment

Most CIPD providers

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC - A

The assessment is around 3900 words, and it is a huge thing at the end of all your live online, classroom, and online learning. The perk for the centre is when the assessment changes, they only need to change the A, and nothing else really changes.

HRC Online Approach

A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC - A,CCC

While the assessment is 3900 words long, it consists of 10 unique questions. You can allocate 390 words, too, which means that when the syllabus changes, our content has to change to match the new, unique questions.

Over the last month, we have ensured you have the following.

Fully redesigned three units of our qualification, which involved the following

- 75 hours GLH (Guided Learning Hours)

- 180 of TUT (Total Qualification Time)

- 33 New Videos

- 100+ Essential References

- 100+ Additional References

- 30 Podcast snippets from our LTHR

- 10 AI Topic Essential Videos (Testing out AI in course content)

- 90 Reflective Quiz Questions

LET'S TALK APPRENTICESHIPS!

This is a topic HRC Online has avoided for years, but we are currently talking to an apprenticeship provider whose values match our own, and we are starting to put together a waiting list for people thinking about studying CIPD via the apprenticeship levy.
