Have you ever thought about how to measure the wellbeing of yourself or your employees?

Wellbeing has been a buzzword for some time, but what does it truly mean, and how can we measure it?

Our wellbeing as employees affects how we think and feel about our individual work and our collective work within an organisation, which can predict our job attitudes and performance, but what about our personal wellbeing?

If you have heard of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, you would know of the importance of self-actualisation. In developing a theory to address and define self-actualisation, in 1998, Dr. Martin Seligman identified five components’ people pursue to achieve wellbeing, and this created the PERMA model.

Each dimension works in cohesion to provide an individual with the ability to thrive and flourish in life. Read through the dimensions below with some things you can do to achieve each!

Positive Emotion:

-??????Spend some time with loved ones and those close to you.

-??????Do more of the things that you really enjoy, and are passionate about.

-??????Reflect on things you are grateful for and what is going well in your life.

Engagement:

-??????Participate in activities you enjoy and allow yourself to lose your sense of time.

-??????Live in the moment, starting with small mundane tasks.

-??????Watch, listen and observe what happens around you in nature.

-??????Identify what your strengths are and play on those in these moments.

Positive Relationships

-??????Join classes, clubs or social groups that interest you.

-??????Engage with those you don’t know as well as you could, ask new questions and dig deeper to create friendships out of acquaintanceship's.

-??????Spark up conversation with those you haven’t been in touch with, and connect again.

Meaning

-??????Get involved in organisations that align with your values.

-??????Try new and creative ways to connect with the things you value.

-??????Identify ways you can use your passions to help others.

Accomplishments

-??????Set SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound).

-??????Reflect on your journeys – not just your past successes but your learnings and areas of growth, to where you are now.

-??????Look for creative ways to celebrate each achievement, large or small.

I have found three activities which embody the PERMA framework that you can complete today to increase your wellbeing!

1.???The VIA Character Personality Assessment survey: learn your character strengths to guide you in achieving better engagement and accomplishment.

2.???Track and Measure Success worksheet: keep track of your wins and success story

3.???Gratitude Journal: to implement a routine for self-gratitude in your daily life

I encourage you to have a go at one of the above activities and reflect on your results. Ask yourself how your results align with your values and what could you focus on harnessing more to improve your wellbeing.?
