Have you ever seen "Edit and Continue" work?
Installing the latest and greatest version of Visual Studio 2022, there was one feature which caught my eye. Hot Reload. Sounds A LOT like Edit and Continue. In fact they are linked.
Uhhm.....Wasn't that a "feature" of Visual Studio a few years go? In fact, I tried finding out when it was ACTUALLY introduced... early 2010s?
Maybe the new 2022 feature is called Hot Reload?
I'm debugging tonight (yes, Fri night, trying to finish something off)...and the Edit and Continue popup you see in the title, is now interfering on EVERY LINE I STEP OVER!
This brings me to the question, have you EVER see Edit and Continue work? I have NEVER seen hot reloading or Edit and Continue to work. I talk with other devs, and they say the SAME THING. I want to find out if I'm just doing it wrong? Or have you experienced the same thing? If I'm not alone, maybe we can "help" Microsoft get it right in the future.
Now that I got that off my chest, it's time to grab a coffee and get back to my integration test coding.
Good post Peter! I have never used edit and continue before and I have only ever read about the hot reload feature in VS 22! I just installed vs 22 last week and that hot reload button does look interesting. Now I’m curious to try this as well!
