Have You Ever Lost Yourself?

Guiding Women Executives 45+ to Lead with Intuition and Confidence While Navigating High-Stakes Decisions—Using Intuitive Access to Create Immediate Connection and Transformative Insights l Keynote Speaker | She/her |
Whether you lost yourself in a relationship or lost yourself in a role, whether you lost yourself in work or—and I hope this isn’t the case—lost yourself by deceiving yourself, only to fall prey to your own deceptions—or you just plain lost track of yourself over the months and years, learning to love yourself is the way to find yourself.
This loving yourself gets a little messy—right away. Because you must turn inward to discover just who this person you are is—and the first things that greet you will be… your emotions.
?And your emotions sometimes lie to you.
Yes. They do. Because our social conditioning has determined what emotions we can and cannot have. This is an oversimplification but I’m going to say it anyway: men get to be angry and successful. Women get to be sad and supportive and, if they work really, really hard, they also get to be successful.
You noticed it, didn’t you? “Supportive” and “successful” are not emotions.
I know. But what I just said is the truth.
It may take a while but getting in touch with your emotions is a valuable way to get closer to yourself.
But you have to be careful about the narratives that come with some of those emotions. This is another oversimplification but, hey, this is a short piece, right?
The narratives you may spin around your emotional experience are determined by your social conditioning, too. And determined by your beliefs and your experience and the way you have been treated by your family, friends, co-workers, and other members of your community.
?So then—and this can get even messier—it’s time to meet up with your physical body.
Because your body holds the most authentic aspects of you.
I know, I know: you try to ignore your physical body. Have you got it on a schedule? So there aren’t those pesky times when you are hungry and it’s not an official meal time? Or you’re sleepy and it’s not the time for sleepiness?
What about physical sensations? You keep those repressed, too, right? You get up to speak in front of a group and you live from the neck up, right?
But—and this is a big “but”—you’re going to have to start to respect the signals you get from your body. Heck, you may even have to respect your body! Even if it doesn’t “measure up.”
?I have to warn you: once you start on this path, the body and its sensations and its feelings and its needs will have a hard time being ignored. You may have to design your life to suit your body and its needs.
I know. That’s a shocker.
But here are some of the things that become possible once you do these things:
·???????? You will feel authentic from the inside out and you will come across as authentic.

·???????? You will embody your gifts—you may even develop charisma, the magic that sometimes occurs when we are fully embodied and living our purpose and expressing our gifts.
·???????? You will embody your message when you speak. (This one was hard for me. I was one of those talking heads in front of the room, shut down from the neck down. When I got in front of the room and I stayed in touch with my body, it was difficult at first. My body was scared! My body was nervous! But now my scared, nervous body and I speak and, together, we make a pretty good team!)

10 个月FRAN GALLAHER this sounds like an amazing summit so I've clicked on the link and will be signing up. I've definitely lost myself in the past, getting caught up in the daily grind of work, family, all the things. I have been doing work in the last two years to get more in touch with me. The work continues! What's something small that a person can start doing daily to get better in touch with what their body is telling them, so they don't wake up one day suddenly to a major health issue?

10 个月Losing oneself and losing one's way are all too common in today's crazy upside down 100mph world. I see this in the owners of professional services firms all the time - the hustle culture, the grind culture, the drive for "more, more, more" without an underlying authentic connection to what they truly want, who they truly want to become, and who they truly want to spend time with. Once you unplug from the "unwinnable game" of more, more, more - you open yourself up to so much clarity, focus, peace, prosperity, and connection. What ways have you found to turn folks around from this blind drive for "more bigger better" that seems so pervasive?

10 个月Your message really resonates, FRAN GALLAHER! The journey to self-love, as you so vividly describe, involves peeling back layers of emotions, social conditioning, and self-imposed narratives. It's intriguing how you highlight the importance of not just understanding, but truly embracing our physical selves. The idea that our bodies are integral to our authenticity is a powerful reminder to honor and listen to them, regardless of societal standards or expectations.
