Using a stick gear shift you can reduce gear to get higher torque response or to apply engine break. At cruise speed, you can increase gear to optimize gas consumption. You can also go backwards by using reverse gear.

Having your electric motor controlled by a VSD allow you to get full torque at zero speed and to go to regenerative mode for quick stops while feeding energy back to your grid.
