Inside The Head Of A Buddhist Monk

Buddhist monks have been practicing meditation for centuries, and their methods have been studied extensively by modern scientists. One of the most common forms of meditation practiced by Buddhist monks is called "mindfulness meditation," which involves focusing one's attention on the present moment without judgment.

During mindfulness meditation, Buddhist monks often sit cross-legged and keep their eyes closed. They focus their attention on their breath, counting each inhale and exhale period, and try to keep their minds from wandering. However the SECRET element of this meditation is to focus attention from one side of the brain to the other side and vice versa. As they do this, their brainwaves start to synchronize, with an increase in alpha and theta waves and a decrease in beta waves.

Buddhist monks also practice "loving-kindness" meditation, which involves generating feelings of compassion and love towards themselves and others. During this form of meditation, the monks focus their attention on specific phrases or thoughts, such as "may all beings be happy and free from suffering." As they do this, their brainwaves again start to synchronize, with an increase in alpha and theta waves.

Research has shown that these forms of meditation can have a range of benefits, including reduced stress and anxiety, increased feelings of well-being, and improved cognitive function. Synchronization of brainwaves is thought to be one of the mechanisms behind these benefits, as it allows the brain to enter a state of deep relaxation and focused attention.
