Recently I came across the article: "Maryport turf fire closes roads and stops trains." (https://www.bbc.co.uk, 2017) The article highlights the events that took place in April 2017 at SIS Pitches where the fire caused mass disruption to not only the business but the surrounding environment, transport links and even electricity supply. The article went on to state:
"Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said crews could be fighting the blaze throughout the night. The fire started in an area where yarn and other materials for making synthetic turf are stored Emergency services were called just after 13:30 BST. Huge plumes of black smoke have been visible up to 30 miles away."
On this particular occasion it would appear that luckily no body was harmed and while there was disruption caused, most importantly all human life was spared. However what the event did highlight was just how easily these things can happen.
At no point would any business have expected anything of that nature to happen, yet the next minute you are fighting a fire of the magnitude and as result all organisations should be as prepared as possible. So if disaster were to strike, perhaps a blaze similar to one described were to occur, have you explored every possible avenue to keep you and your staff as safe as possible?
So how does this apply to us here at Thinking Software?
For those of you unfamiliar with us, here at Thinking Software we develop and support Workforce Management, Time & Attendance Software. MUSTERD is a product that has stemmed from dated ways that this can be addressed in Time & Attendance and Access Control by producing unreliable roll call reports.
So like with all technology, here at Thinking Software we are proud to always been innovating with our creations. MUSTERD is simply the answer to making basic roll call dated method it should be and using more robust and reliable technology to provide you Fire/Disaster Marshals with a more accurate understanding of where people are when disaster strikes.
Need is very much the mother of invention. We have been working in partnership with Access Control Manufacturers for a long period of time and are very proud to do so. However in the event of a fire, naturally it becomes vulnerable and in that environment can be forced into being disabled. The Access Control system produces a very basic roll call report, all of which is unavailable when disabled.
MUSTERD is an evacuation system that communicates with the Cloud and provides in-time information on the members of staff present on-site. In the event of a fire everyone who is on-site within the Access Control System is made unsafe and staff will make their way to the roll call points where they will meet the fire marshal armed with a MUSTERD device.
We turn to technology in all walks of life to improve things operationally and Roll Call is a fine example where we have been adopting an antiquated approach for too long. MUSTERD offers the solution making roll cal the thing of the past it should be and presenting you with your very own Evacuation System for employees to highlight their safe, communicate the events of the disaster and report on what happened afterwards.
