Have you considered "re-founding"? your company post-pandemica?

Have you considered "re-founding" your company post-pandemica?

Writing a weekly roundup of things worth being aware of really helps me to cut through the noise on our platforms and find some of the emerging signals that will help us to better prepare for the future.

My day-to-day life is primarily coaching senior-level leaders and ExCo / C-Suite teams and running workshops or delivering keynotes. Three simple things, bound together by the golden threads of 'conscious leadership & business', with numerous client-specific variations.

I'm often asked why someone like me is so interested in making sense of what's going on in this big beautiful world of ours and the simple answer is - I cannot imagine a world where people like me are not deeply curious. How would we be able to support those who are under the most pressure to develop a longer, broader view, challenge their lenses on the world and find better, smarter ways forward? To work better. Together? And yes, it's really meaningful and enjoyable.

This last week provided rich pickings with Davos running in the background and so much food for thought. When it comes to Davos itself, I (along with millions of other people) was disappointed to see that 150 private jets brought high-profile people to the event.

After fact-checking with Reuters, it seems that the photos used on social media were not from this year's event... social media at its best/worst (I need an emoji or two here).

In the broader scheme of things, I trust that the dialogue and networking fostered at Davos provokes and powers the change we need to use 'business as a force for good'.

3 Things to enrich your thinking for the week ahead

My aim each week?is to bring leaders at all levels three things that are worth knowing about, thinking more deeply about or taking action on. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this week's trio.

Have you considered "re-founding" your company 'post-pandemica'?

When Reid Hoffman, one of Microsoft's Board Members, wrote about 're-founding' as something that needs to happen in organisations from time to time, Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO took it to heart recognising that reconceptualising the company for a changed world needed to happen right now.

In his interview with Klaus?Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the?World Economic Forum, Nadella talks about how Microsoft has hired 60,000 people over the past two years, which represents 40% of the company. Nadella realised that our changed world means that they needed to not only onboard new people but "the entirety of the company needs to be re-onboarded”, which they are currently doing.

If you have been considering what you need to do to emerge from this time better, stronger and wiser, re-founding your company might just be the smartest way forward.

Schwab artfully leads this interview into a myriad of topics including; what it means to be a leader who cares, cloud infrastructure, resilience and Ukraine, AI being the emergent co-pilot for every cognitive task, the immersive feel of the metaverse, anticipating and adapting to regulation 'by design', cybercrime and cyber-readiness, the social purpose of organisations and integrated ESG, "The Great Reshuffle", adopting a 'growth mindset' and culture and ends with 'trust sharing'.

Whew! Thirty minutes, incredibly well spent.

On the topic of re-founding, you can also tap into Reid Hoffman's (also Co-Founder of LinkedIn & Investor at Greylock) "Masters of Scale" and listen to his podcast where he explores the "re-founder mindset".

Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report - The Geopolitical Business

I attended Edelman's live-streamed event from Davos on Monday and it really got me thinking about how geopolitics has become a litmus test for trust in business. I really recommend watching this - it was both thought-provoking and deeply insightful.

Edelman convened a lively panel of experts to discuss what our expectations of business are and how business needs to go beyond its core remit of financial performance, operational excellence and innovation to address today’s rising challenges: the growing dynamics between U.S. and China and the role CEOs must take to help shape policy on societal and geopolitical issues.?

"The corporate exit from Russia has set a global precedent in how organisations behave at a time of crisis."

According to their report published on the same day, just under 6 in 10 respondents now say that geopolitics is a business priority: Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report: The Geopolitical Business.

The Good Work Framework: A new business agenda for the future of work

The World Economic Forum has just published a white paper titled "The Good Work Framework", which aims to help companies establish a new benchmark for job quality by providing a consistent and goal-oriented approach to the development of comprehensive people strategies and to guide measurable actions to promote good work. (Thank you for sharing this Steve Teasdale.)

The Framework sets out five objectives and associated goals (detail in the report):

The report also delves into "A new agenda for the future of work" including four trends impacting the evolution of work and emerging challenges and opportunities.

If this article has piqued your interest in 're-founding' or re-conceptualising all aspects of your business, this is definitely worth exploring.
