Have You Been Renamed?

This morning I learned something new as I heard from my pastor, that the three teenagers named, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, when captured before they were thrown in the fire (book of Daniel) were given new names by the corrupt King. They were stripped of their Hebrew names and were renamed.
Their Hebrew names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. I hope you can look these names up and find their meaning. This has always been written in the bible, but somehow I missed this point through my reading over the years.

Our pastor went on to teach this principle for consideration and asked us all, how is the world renaming each of us?

What names do you carry that you should not? For me, I never wanted to carry the name of a divorced woman (now nine years). I also never wanted to carry the name, of a single mom. I do take on the name of entrepreneur and business owner but do these names fully define me? ?
Perhaps the bigger question is how is it that we believe it's even possible that the world can rename us at all? ?Isn’t it interesting when we agree with how the world is treating us and therefore “naming” us we retreat back and go with it, however when the world is NOT treating us kindly, then our outlook may be that the world is off tilt, and we believe the world has gone mad.?
Neither of these sentiments are correct, because as believers we know the world does NOT define us. In fact, if we know our true purpose in this world we understand that we don’t have anything to do with defining our purpose.
In other words, we have nothing to do with creating our own name. We believe as Christians and I believe as a daughter of the Most High that my name is given along with my purpose on this earth from my father and it is with Him that all my lifes endeavors both good and bad are meant for His glory. I know for certain that the purpose for my life is what He calls me to do.
I will not let the world rename me, I am secure in the name and purpose that God has for me, and on this I will stand!
