Have you been QF*ed?

Have you been QF*ed?

I have.

How do I know?

The Chairman of Qantas just told me.

As I was driving to a meeting this afternoon I caught Qantas Chairman Richard Goyder, FINALLY, in an interview with Peter Ryan

And what did he say about QF*ed?

?In hindsight he/the board would have done some things differently.

Are you kidding me?

In hindsight? He and the board are paid a plane load to have foresight.

As I listened to the interview the word hindsight came out of Richard's mouth about 10 times. Foresight 0. It took me back to when Alan Bond was on trial for ripping off pretty much everyone and his response in court was 'he couldn't remember'. Right Alan (Bond that is not Joyce, although the parallels are somewhat weird).

Let's look at the word du jour - hindsight.

One meaning is:

The understanding of a situation or event only after it has happened or developed.

Is Richard Goyder seriously trying to tell everyone that he and the rest of the board didn't understand 'the situation/event' of sacking workers, running an industrial scale 'ghost plane fleet', scamming loyalty members of point redemptions at the time these and other planned and well-executed strategies were happening?

If he and the board didn't know, they QF*ed.

If they did know and acquiesced/approved of them, they are QF*ed.

And, just to show you how they don't give a QF*ck about what anyone thinks today they've announced they're increasing the renumeration of the board.

Well, clearly they have some some foresight about their value.

Let's see how the Qantas board presents this to their shareholders.

To save Richard some time and BCG consulting fees, let me offer this suggestion for his presentation.

"Dear Shareholders (QF*ed customers are not relevant).

We've had a GREAT year.

In hindsight we should have had more foresight.

To enable us to have more foresight we approved a gross payout to the former CEO as he captured us...and by the way left the company with a humungous forward investment expense...opps, that's foresight.

There's so many issues we now have to deal with (think acronym soup -ASIC, FWC and more) that board members need to be paid more. This is foresight...just what you were asking if the board had any of.

And, with more foresight, I am just the right person to lead QF*ed through this 'challenging time' which in hindsight, I could have prevented, but with foresight, and an increase in my Chairman's fees, I am just the person.

Thank you."

Channelling John Clarke

As I re-read this I thought of the wonderful Bryan Dawe and John Clarke.

They would have had a field day with Richard, Alan, the board and, well, the lot of it. Here's a link to their YouTube channel.

Just so you can play verbal gymnastics to make hindsight sound like foresight and pass go and collect your extra $200K on the way through.

Do what I did just stop flying with them and keep pumping out letters that don’t get answered re flight credits and out of pocket costs ie being stranded in Broome 16 months ago. Then send to ACCC and at least get told you’re in the queue!

Thanks for all the QTips and QF*ks Jaqui Lane LOVED this! It has always bugged me the way QANTAS plays the sentimental 'we are Australians' and 'the national carrier' taking tax payer money as a private company blurring the line between public and private while QF*cking customers and lining their pockets. Hindsight.

Well said Jacqui, we are at a quintessential point in ignorance, boards do not understand that the consciousness of the masses are rising whilst theirs remain at a low level. We are about to hit the tipping point, our social mandate as a tribe of humans is rising, those do not listen will do so at their peril. To be clear by peril I mean they will be voted off by those that hold our superfunds and hence the major shareholders in these companies that have a social licence to serve us, not to serve those they allocate chairman’s lounge tickets to

I LOVED your article on QF'ed. Funny, and insightful. And you put it so plainly, so we know why we are all so irritated.? And we are irritated. It's such an appalling use of power. He gets interviewed, then speaks as if the problem is really nothing to do with a lack of competence. His mind was saying......"Obscure the issues. Attempt to sound as professional and clever as possible"..... Just on that, I thought the CEO recent video was more honest and vulnerable. Alhough, I would have like to hear from her a bit more specifically about actually how they got it wrong and how they specifically acted in untrustworthy ways. More frank admissions please.
