Have you accomplished your new year resolutions? If not, read this...

If yes, are you following or executing your resolution till date?

Well, if your answer is NO… this is for you if you are still willing to accomplish your resolution…

First thing, I want you to do is – List down all the resolutions that you made.

Now, sometimes people might say I forgot because of my busy schedule or any reason...

However, I would encourage you to press hard on your memory and jot down all the resolutions that you made…

Don’t read further unless you write them down.

Have you written them?

OK, good!

Now, put a mark against each resolution under 3 categories...

1.      You started and continuing till date;

2.      You started but stopped in between; and

3.      You never started because of any reason.

Please don’t be lazy to do this exercise because this is not for me. THIS IS FOR YOU!

Let’s discuss each category in detail so that you can get back on track and fulfil your resolutions…

You may think why this is important when we have crossed more than 8 months of this year?

Because when you don’t complete your resolution which you had set for yourself, your mind is being trained for not completing things on time and it increases chance for not completing future resolutions as well which leads to failure.

Also, when you don’t execute your resolutions and think in the month of December as to you didn’t accomplish your resolutions. This again result into regret which is not good for your mental health as well as your life results.

Let me tell you that still, you have time to accomplish your resolutions so that you can happily say at the end of 2019, I made it happen rather than having regret and hope that next year you will do it...

And you know, next year never comes….

So, let’s get started…

Category 1 - You started and continuing till date

This is the best category to be in because you are on track with your resolution. Keep moving forward and you will have more success in future.

Category 2 - You started but stopped in between

I appreciate you for starting your resolution because majority of population never starts them only. Now, I can see following reasons because of which you may have stopped…

1.      No urgency – It was not that important for you and hence your priority shifted to other tasks and you left in between.

2.      No clarity – Every human being wants result and when you haven’t clearly defined results for your resolution, you won’t be serious enough to continue.

3.      Lack of interest – Many people are super charged up on 1 January and makes resolution without being committed. However, due to lack of interest and commitment towards it, people don’t pursue it and leave it in between.

Category 3 - You never started because of any reason

Now, this is the category in which majority of people are caught in. Major reason is procrastination and what I mentioned above for category 2.

Shubham, I can relate to it and how can I resolve this problem and accomplish my resolutions?

If you are the one who have this question, Congratulations because you still have time to complete maximum resolutions…

Here’s what I recommend you to write down below things against each resolution….

1.      How urgent it is for you?

2.      What result you are trying to achieve from it?

3.      What would happen if you don’t do it?

4.      How would you feel if you accomplish it?

Now, when you have written this you would realise importance of each resolution in each life…

If you have more than 3 resolution, I would recommend you to pick any 3 which has more impact and importance in your life and….

START working on it and make things move forward…

And one more tip to keep going and working on resolution is…

Think of any person or anything in specific you dislike and attribute that to each of your resolution!

Now, what do I mean by this?

Let’s understand with an example…

Say, you don’t like a person for any reason whatsoever. Now, tell yourself that if I don’t accomplish this resolution, I will give him/ her a treat in a 5-star hotel.

DO this and accomplish your resolution so that you can proudly say – I DID IT.

This will encourage you to make new resolution for next year and give a confidence to complete them as well unlike before.

I hope this will be helpful to you for accomplishing your top 3 resolutions in remaining 110 days!

PS. I will discuss in detail about it and other related aspects (eg. How to make resolution and achieve them effectively) in my upcoming book – 7 Qualities of High Performing Chartered Accountants.
