Have workers spent so much time at home they’ve forgotten the rules of the workplace?

Many simple tasks that people were good at prior to the pandemic, such as meal preparation, face-to-face conversations, and socialising with coworkers, are no longer second nature because workers are out of practise. Furthermore, due to people's varying attitudes toward remote work, re-entering the open-plan offices that employees left behind in 2020 has been uplifting for some and jarring for others, or even a perplexing mix of the two.

Some people are more shy and introverted and less tolerant of the irritations that come with being surrounded by colleagues after having complete control over their working environments at home. Others, on the other hand, may be so happy to be in an office with coworkers that they break old social etiquette rules.

Experts predict that things will settle down as we gradually return to a formal professional environment. But it's fair to say that 'being in the office' isn't what it used to be; the way many businesses use offices has changed as remote and hybrid work become more prevalent. The office's current purpose - and the rules governing our behaviour in it - are still evolving, which means workers are on a learning curve.
