Have we lost our happy places?

Tales from the Wendy House - The other day I was going about my normal business and out of the blue found something (I can't repeat what, but trust me here) very, very funny. So much so, I laughed that hard I gave myself a headache. After a while and a few sniggers later I realised that I hadn't laughed uncontrollably for a long time. I wondered if this was due to Covid because that certainly was no laughing matter, or was it the impending (current recession) or the cost of living or fuel bills - I could go on.
That got me thinking..... does all of the above contribute to taking life more seriously?
I'm sure it does, but most of it we can't control and we don't have much of a say about it either. But that's on a macro level.
With that stark reality check - sorry - in my normally positive style, I'm not going to let things I can't control influence my happiness. Someone once said "a day without laughter is a day wasted". How true. I sat in a meeting the other day and no one smiled much. It wasn't a bad meeting, but I think we've lost our mojo in the cheesy grin department - a by-product of Zoom and Teams methinks.
I regularly set myself goals and my next one is how to lighten up my own world and the worlds of those around me. I'm fed up of serious. It doesn't allow for happy places or laughing so much you can't breathe.

Before anyone says there's not much to smile about at the moment, I get it. But I also get that happy places we go to or the daft jokes we tell are needed more than anything at the right now.
So, my challenge to you is the next meeting you go into, tell a joke, do something spontaneous, burst into opera singing. Anything, even if it's just a smile. You never know, you may get a smile back!
And if you're still wondering what could make me laugh so much, watch this space for details of my Intrapreneurship Masterclass where I may reveal all!

2 年Definitely a symptom of society and culture. Since retiring I’ve had time to ‘notice’ things more as well as ‘allow’ myself to chill and laugh more.

2 年It's true Wendy, I feel a bit similar but this tale reminded me of when you got your new filing cabinet ?? that made us all giggle! My laugh for today was a video of my dog as a puppy getting her head stuck in a flowerpot - will be sharing on here in the not too distant future to give everyone a Friday feel good too!
