Have Millennials figured out the Job Security dispute?
Have you ever wondered if Job Security even exists? On one side of the discussion, employers are doing all they can to engage and retain top talent. While on the other side, employees at all levels are being cut, after years of service with little or no notice.
Maybe it’s the Millennials who’ve figured it out. They don’t expect to work for the same company for 30 years. They’re not afraid to change jobs and are confident that their next job will give them the opportunity to learn new things and earn more money This unparalleled approach to work and career could transform the traditional definition of job security.
The only job security that exists today is your ability to improve your marketability while you’re employed.
While you’re working commit to a lifetime of learning. master new skills, work on projects that stretch your abilities, and focus on accomplishments that have a positive impact on your employer. In addition, increase your business and personal network throughout your career.
It’s rare for anyone to work for the same company their entire career and for those that do, their income is probably lower, than if they had made a few career moves.
You don’t want to be devastated if you unexpectedly lose your job. If it happens, adapt the attitude of a Millennial and know your next job will give you the opportunity to learn new things and earn more money.
The shortage of top talent is going to escalate in the future. You won’t have to worry about your next job if you have a history of peak performance, a strong network and you’ve continued to enhance your abilities.
Would love for you to share your thoughts about Job Security.
