They Have A Love Language Too

They Have A Love Language Too

?? Bosses, Co-Workers & Your Team... They?Have A Love Language Too!

You don't have to be a mind reader to find out which love language speaks to those you work with. Instead, start observing:

  • How does "Julie" interact and treat others?
  • Hmm, "Frank" is always complaining about....
  • "Martha" is the first to volunteer

In honor of Valentine's Day, here's how Gary Chapman's popular five love languages can be adapted to your career and work.

?? Words of Affirmation ???? Feedback & Mentorship??

Are you communicating in the spirit of positive feedback to others -- and inviting it in?

Tell your colleagues you'd appreciate it, tell your manager you welcome it and reinforce positive feedback with a "smile file" when amnesia sets in.

?? Quality Time ???? Bonding With The Work Buds

Most are remote still, and perhaps to stay. So what. Bonding does not have to be in person -- although that's ideal.

"Workplace friendliness" is a re-work of the “quality time” love language offering workplace, opportunities that are “non-work”

When was the last time you had zoom lunch with a new hire or your team... or celebrated a workplace something something?

?? Gifts ???? New Challenges & Opportunities?

Physical gifts are not the focus here.

If your ?? language is gifts, head to the top of the list to be selected for a new project and stay in close communication with your boss. Go ahead too and ???raise your hand when you see an opening.

New skills and challenges are apt to be rewarded with the gift of exposure.

You're the boss? Offer a day off for those who go the extra mile or handwritten note that strike the right balance.

?? Acts of Service ???? Support??

Swap out the act of service as in "I'm going to do something kind and thoughtful for my partner" to support and care.

Check in on someone dealing with overwork or ramping up in a new role by lifting them up with actions over words.??

A few years back I brought in piping hot ?? fries post-holiday party for those who needed some grease absorption. This was support since I was the only one not hungover offering some nutrients to function.

?? Touch ????Touchpoints?

No, you're not going to physically touch people, instead touch with encouragement.?

Pick up the phone, leave a voice note or send a quick video (thank you Loom) summarizing how you appreciate them or what a client raved about their performance. This is often an overlooked opportunity to share a compliment,

Dole out some public praise, give a Linkedin shout out or a virtual fist bump ????

?What's your work love language?

How can I not lead with the LOVE emotion when reading your article LoRen ?? gReiFf? One of constant messages I get from everything you do is "warm and welcoming communication." On this platform, I am escalating my comments. It's so lovely to receive one. Why not give? Interestingly, some of my best thoughts are in the comments. Maybe I should fortify my idea zone by tracking my comments!
