Have I been a good father?
How was your Father's Day? As a family, we reveled in watching Gary Woodland win his first major at the US Open by three shots. My son, Edward, competed against Gary in college. During one tournament I met Gary's father, Dan. We got to walk along and talk about our sons, and I could see how much Dan loved his son. A father's love is one of the most profound things we can give our children. It is foundational to the way our kids see themselves and form their identity.
Watching Gary sink a final birdie putt on the 18th green at Pebble Beach, followed by the embrace of his mom and Dad made all of us tear up. Dan said something to Gary during that embrace, said two words, "Thank you!" Hearing those words touched me deeply because every Dad wonders if he has been a good father and has made a difference in his children's life. It is not the trophies our kids achieve that moves us the most. It is in knowing we have made a difference, and they still want us to be a part of their story. Those two words from Dan spoke volumes to me about the kind of Dad he has been to Gary.
Blessings to you dad. It is never too late to transform you family story! For more on being a good father go to: https://www.blessingofthefather.com/
