Birthdays are so important, and also, not so important. Let us consider separately, in that order, and then let us try to conclude meaningfully.
We all look forward to our own birthday and to those of our dear ones, and it makes sense. It is?so much fun.
Birthday commemorates one's arrival on the earth and amidst one's loved ones, and it celebrates life. Why not!
Birthdays are occasions to exchange love and good wishes; they create ripples of defiant happiness and fun in an ocean of mundane problems and life's grim challenges. They create a streak of positivity in an otherwise dull life; to say 'Happy Birthday' to a dear one is like saying 'thank you for being in my life'! It is an expression of gratitude and joy, which constitute the real essence of existence.
Now the flip side. It is about this life only. On the day of our birth, only this life began, but existence was already there. Life after life, we have a new body born on a day which is different for each life, and so there would hardly be a day in the year when in some past life, it was not our birthday! That we do not know or remember, does not make a difference. So everyday is a birthday; physical?birth apart, a new earnest resolution, a new lifestyle, a new outlook is a rebirth in the same body. So let us not focus too much on just this life's birthday, let us instead live every day to its fullest.
Have you noticed how soon the birthday passes! Well, so do the years, and life itself. No need to feel depressed post birthday! With each birthday, we are a year older and a year closer to our exit, and so birthdays are also vital reminders that time is running out, and we better focus on life's priorities.?

To conclude: On birthdays, let's of course have fun. Life must be an ever-new joy. But let us also be reminded of the great things we certainly want to accomplish in life - let us love more, enjoy the beauty and wonder of each moment, get over our weaknesses and flaws (they are not us, we just have them, and we can drop them any day when we really, really want to), exercise more, eat less (for most of us), meditate more, worry less, and be more grateful for the opportunity called LIFE! What a tremendous thing it is! There is so much possibility packed in each day, each moment!
Let us resurrect our souls from the tomb of too much of?body consciousness,?let us be reborn everyday.?
Let us have a Happy Birthday... everyday!
