HAVE to or GET to?
I was talking to a friend earlier today and she was telling me about how she "had to" do something. I understood why she was saying she "had" to it. Yet, it was her tone that really got to me. She sounded beaten down, stuck, like a prisoner of her circumstances.
I asked permission if I could share a suggestion. She said yes. So, I asked "do you "have to" or do you "get to" do it?" I paused. A pivotal moment.
Your choice.
She decided that she would "get to" do the thing she needed to do.
Here’s the thing… the words we use impact us on a daily basis.
HAVE TO frames things negatively, a sense of obligation, something we are required to do.
GET TO frames things positively, there's a sense of gratitude and appreciation.
Do you see the difference?
It's subtle, yet it shifts our perspective.
It's a little thing that can have a big impact.
Choose an "attitude of gratitude."
So, that job that you think you HAVE TO go to work at today, well, you actually GET TO go there.
That meeting that you HAVE TO go to, yes... you GET TO go there too.
Count your blessings and your freedom to choose to focus on the positive.
