Have fun. Don't sweat it. Stress Kills. This philosophy is how you should run your business AND your life. I'm serious (and I'm still having fun). First off it's much more fun to be in an offensive mode versus a stressful defensive posture - but there is also an added bonus - you probably won't die so quickly.
I'm not a doctor. In fact, I don't know a virus from a root canal. But I know this - stress will kill you. It will put you six feet under. The deadly impact of stress is one of the most underestimated health concerns of our lifetime.
There are plenty of things out there to stress us out. Don't participate. Stress is all voluntary. She will invite you in - but you don't have to accept the invite. Just say no. Really. There are options.
Does it do any good to worry? No. Does it do any good to make yourself sick with stress? No. Will worry or stress change the outcome of that problem, issue, or situation? No (other than make it worse).
Ignore problems? Hell no.
That would be stupid. Handle problems. Handle situations. Deal with issues. Don't stress yourself out about a problem but don't ever run either. This is when stress takes over.
Make yourself some coffee, take a deep breath, grab a pen and a piece of paper, and study that problem. Write it down. Scribble some potential solutions and outcomes. Ask yourself to envision the worst possible scenario and then look at the best possible scenario. Gather as much information as you can. The time spent doing this is in direct proportion to the seriousness of the problem.
Use that information to develop a plan. If you need other people involved - make that part of your plan. Get the plan in gear as soon as possible and move forward. Do not wait for or look for perfection.
I love using checklists. Make a list and attack. Next step. Go. It might be a phone call. It might be an email. Whatever that next step is - do it. Enjoy it. Have fun knowing that you are facing and attacking a problem and you simply don't have time for stress.
Don't have a heart attack. Don't have a stroke. Don't get diabetes. Just don't.
Remember - Almost everywhere you find a big problem - there is also a big opportunity nearby. Instead of wasting time with whining, moaning, bitching, and stressing - hunt down that opportunity as you are in the process of solving the problem at hand.
Lots of problems = lots of opportunities = lots of solutions = lots of money and satisfaction.
Make a game out of it. Have fun.
