Have the Courage to Fail

Success is not the measure of courage.

To take a risk in light of probable failure is the test of one’s mettle. We taste victory when we face fear head on, climb over the obstacles and persevere despite self-doubt. What we gain from the struggle is the true prize.

It doesn’t take guts to publish a guaranteed bestselling novel with the help of a ghostwriter after securing a $65 million deal through a literary agent. It does take real heart to come home from a soul-sucking job night after night and churn out a chapter for a story you’re not sure anyone wants to read.

Bravery belongs to those who rewrite their short story after the sixth rejection. Valor is for those who believe in their article when no one else seems interested.

The hero is not the one who experiences success, but those who are willing to fail.
