Have The Best Day

"I support business owners in becoming more effective leaders within their organizations while also cultivating a more fulfilling personal life."
"Have The Best Day EVER!"
Last week, as I was buying food, I met someone that impacted my life.
I was browsing the various selections when I overheard an exchange between an employee and a customer.
The customer kept inquiring about one out of stock product. The employee kept assuring her that it would return to their inventory soon.
The customer finally accepted this and proceeded to pay. Once the transaction was finalized the employee looked up, smiled, and said, "Have the Best Day Ever!"
It wasn't so much the words she said, as much as it was how she said it - that's what struck me. You could tell she meant it... you could tell she felt it.
It was my turn to check out. Some brief pleasantries were shared during the transaction. I paid. She looked up at me, smiled (with a twinkle in her eye) "Have the best day ever!"
"I will if you promise to do the same."
I thought about her for the next few hours. What inspires someone to not just say the words, but feel them? What was her story? I had to know.
A few hours passed and I had the opportunity to interact with her again. I asked my questions. She shared snippets of her story:
More hardships than we could count. Heartbreaking losses. Set backs. Let downs. Disappointments. You name it, she had been through it.
I asked the only question I could think to ask: "After having been through all of that, how are you, you?"
Her reply shot through me like a bolt of lightening.
"I decided that this is the only choice for me."
A lady who has been through everything...
A human who has endured more than most ever will...
Someone who has every reason to chose to be bitter, angry, resentful, etc...
In a sea of choices she chooses one that lifts her and those around her up daily.
The reason that you can feel the meaning in her words when she says "Have the Best Day Ever," is because she has made the choice to do the same. For her that is THE choice that helps her maximize the enjoyment of her life.
She chooses to not be defined by the pain of her past.
She chooses to be the author of her story today, tomorrow, and for all her days to come.
Have the Best Day Ever my friend.
