Haunted Historic Hotels to Visit

If you’re a Halloweenista and love chills running up and down your spine or in some cases…your room or hallway, then we’ve rounded up a handful of haunted hotels worthy of visiting.

Hotel Monteleone

WHERE: New Orleans, Louisiana

Hotel Monteleone was established in the French Quarter in 1886 and ghost sightings have been frequently reported since its inception. One such ghost, a young boy named Maurice, is often seen near the room where he died. It’s typical for these ghosts to play around with the elevator (it stops on the wrong floor) or you feel a wash of cold air coming down the halls.

Ballygally Castle

WHERE: Ballygally, Ireland

The 17th century Ballygally Castle was home to Lady Isabella Shaw and her husband Lord James Shaw. While she is supposedly a friendly ghost, you stay at your own risk in the “The Ghost Room” which was created just for her.

The Mermaid Inn

WHERE: Rye, England

The cellars of The Mermaid Inn date back to 1156 and the story goes that smugglers had made the property a base for their operations. Though it had been originally burnt down and then rebuilt, the spirits linger - at least five of them. Guests have reported seeing figures moving in some of the 31 rooms.

The Omni Grove Park Inn

WHERE: Asheville, North Carolina

The Omni Grove Park Inn calls their resident ghost, known as The Pink Lady, a very sad, but gentle apparition. It appears she fell to her death in a pink gown in the 1920s and is frequently spotted by guests. Visitors report feeling cold, seeing lights turn on and off, and glimpsing whirls of pink smoke.

Nottingham Road Hotel

WHERE: Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa

Evidently, ghost Charlotte loiters around Room 10, rearranging objects and cleaning up after guests. Supposedly, she was either a chambermaid or prostitute who either committed suicide or was pushed to her death from the balcony. Visitors say their room is often tidy upon their return.
