Hats off to Healesville Sanctuary
Those of you that know me well enough, know that I am a very keen birder and somewhat of a budding bird photographer. However, this little spiel is not about me, but rather, Healesville Sanctuary who are doing are wonderful job in supporting, protecting and educating people on Australian wildlife.
Yesterday I spent a wonderful day at the sanctuary, and I must say that the animals looked happy, healthy and accommodated for in every way. Both the location and the environment are wonderful, with enough animal diversity to keep everybody interested. It is a short drive North East of Melbourne along the Maroondah Highway.
Having never been there before, I was a little concerned about seeing birds in cages. However, the cages were in fact aviaries which were very substantial in size. Birds were flying around freely, and occasionally mistaking people for perches. In the above image, I became a perch for this wonderful juvenile Red-tailed black cockatoo.
Accordingly, I am taking this opportunity to congratulate this wonderful business, its staff, the volunteers, and those who donate generously in an effort to help protect and support our wildlife. Well done on what you have all achieved!
