THE HATE PENDULUM

THE HATE PENDULUM

It would be foolish to believe that the country and maybe even the world hasn’t devolved into feeling and expressing more hate. It exists and what’s going to be extremely interesting is watching it swing in a new direction.

BIDEN WILL TAKE OFFICE

You can feel the shift because the markets are predicting a Biden victory. There will be more uncertainty until January about the outcome. But make no mistake, despite the recounts and some shady events surrounding vote counting, Biden will be in and Trump will be out.

For the past four years we’ve watched a group of people develop a strong hatred for President Trump and seen it manifest in social media, demonstrations, riots, and more notably, at the Thanksgiving dinner table. It’s been shocking to find close “moderate” friends take on such adamant, visceral rancor for those of us who’ve been more level-headed.

That hate has been unfortunate and now it’s going to shift to being in those who will allow themselves to strongly feel hate about the Biden camp.  Passionate people who support a Trump presidency will feel robbed, victimized, and full of despair. Those feelings will easily turn to hate.

IF YOU'RE AN OWNER, MANAGER, OR EXECUTIVE……. ARE YOUR READY?

The next two years and maybe longer are going to see the hate spill over more and more into the sanctuary of our homes and businesses. I don’t like saying it but it’s hard to refute the trend, the trend of the hate pendulum swinging into the other camp and becoming worse.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

Civility comes from respecting each person no matter their background be it financial health, social status, race, ethnic upbringing, and disparate points of view. Everyone is different and unique. And it’s been our innate, natural tendency to accept others for who they are. We should remember that regularly.

The number one soft-skill for managers is now emotional intelligence in this COVID dominated world. Where understanding and dealing with broad emotions has been a secondary skillset in the past, it has now gravitated to the top personal skill needed today. Is it any wonder that with more hate coming to the forefront that leaders are going to need to be emotionally savvy even more?!

I often tell my clients it’s about the energy we bring. A positive, anabolic energy is needed to help overcome and melt that hate. Most of us know the Golden Rule about loving each other. Yet it’s so easy to give it lip service when we feel strong negative emotions or feel passionately about our cause, business, or mission. When the actions of others threaten our peaceful status quo.

WE NEED TO BRING A TON MORE COMPASSION AND EMPATHY TO OUR WORKPLACE TO DIFFUSE THE HATE PENDULUM SWING.

It’s hard to bet against the human spirit. Especially when it is infused with a sense of hope or expectation of progress. We need to see our business’s environment as a sanctuary for instilling progress, teamwork, and promise to those who will be prone to slipping into further hate.

If we don’t, we will regret our inaction.

One of my actions is to continue spreading how businesses are conquering challenges, fostering teamwork, and fulfilling purpose through my podcast, Business with Universal Love.  Expressions of love from the human spirit isn’t squishy, it’s actually a strength. If you bring empathy, compassion, and foster a collaborative culture to your business, I’d love to have you on my show. Message me if you have a story worth sharing.

There is a wealth of good going on today. We need to be alert and ready to help squash the new hate that’s coming. We’ll need to conquer it with love.
