'Haste' and the need for action...

I write this article in haste... haste only due to the need for action, the need for positive change.

In 2016, 195 countries gathered in Paris and signed what is widely known today as the Paris Climate Agreement. A single uniting agreement aimed at reducing the impacts that we as a society have on our planet.

Less than a year later (1st June 2017), the United States of America announced that they will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

The US who are the second largest contributor to carbon emissions behind China (18 and 20% respectably) leave in their wake a huge void which now requires the unwavering commitment of remaining countries, businesses and the people of this planet to curb climate change.

I started this article in haste and with a call to action... the below illustrates exactly the commitment that needs to be made and varies from big corporations to single individuals.

On 31st May 2017, Exxon Mobil management was out voted by its shareholders and investors (62.3%) in a rebellion that instructed them to report their impacts on global measures designed to limit climate change to under two degrees centigrade, which aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement.

Just hours after the announcement by President Donald Trump to leave the Paris Climate Agreement, Elon Musk resigned from two presidential advisory councils stating in a tweet;

"Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world."

On that note, I'd like to take this opportunity not to reflect on America's decision but to begin a discussion around some of the positive impacts that countries, companies and individuals are having.

In saying this feel free to leave a good news story below that is working towards this united goal and seeks to establish a new sustainable future for our planet... our only planet.
