Hassling Hustle Culture: How To Avoid Unhealthy Working
Written by Trixia Policarpio?
By the time we enter our 20s, we start to be surrounded by people who subscribe to a hustler lifestyle and seek to achieve their career goals step by step. For instance, if you are a college student, it is more likely that your peers and friends are considering internships, entry-level jobs, and part-time employment.?
The same holds true whether you are a regular employee and your coworkers are always hustling to get their job done. You may notice how some of them work overtime almost everyday, and their desks are always piled high with tasks and paperwork. It's easy to be misled by this, and you'll begin to feel like you're falling behind or not accomplishing enough. This thinking would then cause you to exert pressure on yourself, adopt the hustling lifestyle, and quickly burn out.
Here's how you can avoid unhealthy working and save yourself from the hustle culture trap!?
Review Your Plans?
Indeed, we had our own goals in mind before we started looking for jobs. This doesn't mean that everything is already set in stone; it just means that we know what path we're trying to take.
But when we're exposed to this hustle culture or surrounded by others with different aims, we frequently forget them. When this occurs, you should return to your own vision. It's more likely that you won't recognize you're pursuing something that doesn't matter to you if you continue to look at others' success.
Success varies for each and every individual. For others, success is coping with the hustle culture, whereas for you, success may be the ability to work on your own terms, financial independence, or eating dinner at home every night.
Refrain from Comparisons
Similar to the previous point, avoid comparing your accomplishments, work, and growth with those of your classmates or coworkers. You can ask them for advice, tips, and insightful stories, but you must carefully choose which ones to apply in your own endeavor.?
As cliche as it sounds, your time will also come, so you don't have to push yourself too much to keep up with others' progression. You must reevaluate if you are pursuing your own ambitions or merely running after someone.

Set Clear Boundaries
?The hustling culture entails being "on" 24/7/365, responding to emails and phone calls whenever they come in. While this provides ease for your employers, you sacrifice your personal life and allow others to disrespect your time. This circumstance causes you to be defined by your job and your entire life to be ruled by your career.
Never allow yourself to become a work prisoner. Work solely during the allotted period and enjoy a productive "me" time after. You never know how much you can accomplish and learn if you commit sufficient attention and time to activities outside of work.
Determine Where the Finish Line Is
Have you written a letter to your future self before? What kind of goals or ambitions do you typically set for yourself, say, over the next three years? Obviously, there's nothing wrong with dreaming big and instantly wishing to purchase a home, settle down with a car, and launch a successful business. In fact, nothing is impossible if one works diligently. However, your health and well-being will suffer if you force to do all these major things at once. Plan carefully and select an attainable objective, especially within a certain time frame. This year's finish line or goal can differ from the following year's.? It's like taking one step at a time towards your ultimate finish line.
Reconnect? With Yourself
Self-evaluation is the best way to keep yourself from being swayed by the hustle culture. You can watch numerous videos of people online discussing their success or productivity stories. It is so tempting to want the same thing that they do. However, each individual is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all daily routine that will catapult you to success.
When an online video informs you that by age 18, a person owned a car, it sounds amazing. But just because you are the same age as the other person does not mean you need to purchase one straightaway. Evaluate if it is an immediate need, if it will actually benefit you at this point in your life, and if you're getting one because you need it or because everyone else is doing so.
Hustle culture teaches us that there’s always more to attain, such as more money, a higher title or promotion, or a greater wall to scale. It compels us to work and work and work, lest we fall behind in achieving our goals. Today, take a moment to reassess and reevaluate yourself and your goals.
