Has the USA become the digital era, health-care-communication-privacy embarrassment of the industrialized world? (See below)
Facebook's latest "fake-left-go-right" change in strategy is almost impossible to believe. After all the privacy violations, and outright misrepresentations on privacy promises---they are now proposing to make Privacy a cornerstone of their future growth initiatives. (See article below). And they really believe that the USA public (dum-de-dum-dum) will fall for this nonsense? Well, unfortunately, this may be possible if things don't change. The USA is one of the last of the industrialized world's countries to put up with these continuous privacy violations from Facebook. The EU, China, India, Russia---have already thrown in the towel on Facebook & either completely ban them, or block FB's privacy violations at every step. You know what's most distressing? Its this. I may not lose much sleep if Facebook hoovers up my Public Internet Communications on my running shoes. Or the razors I buy. Big whoop, if I get bombarded with ads from their data-sharing buddies. (Do you know anyone who pays attention to intrusive on-line ads anyway, other than Robots?) But, per this article above, we should care if FB & their "can't tell right from wrong" app buddies are hoovering up our health-care communications. And believe me, they are VERY good at this---by merging all of our Public Internet Ecosystem communications & inquiries. This includes, emails from our Doctors (yep--you better believe it), social media messages to family members about our next Doctor's apt--any WhatsAPP supposedly secure (please!!) text messages---all our website visits, including drug company websites, WebMD, or CDC inquiries. Even clinical trial on-line sign-ups. These are crazy-town in terms of possible digital era Hipaa violations. And what does FB and/or their "nothing to see-here" nefarious app buddies do with our health-care risk-profile information? How about selling it, or making it available to health insurance companies, life insurance companies, lending institutions, credit-score companies, and anybody else who wishes to target (stalk) us based upon their ethics-challenged (AI?) algorithms. What an admirable use of their high IQ's & private school educations. Wonder if any of these supposedly brilliant technologists ever took an ethics course in college? (Oh, I forget. They're only supposed to take STEM courses). I'll bet their mommies must be sooooo proud of them. Until her next surgery, when she finds out her "risk-profile" may cause her out-of-pocket payments to skyrocket---or maybe she'll be denied services, due to apparent pre-existing conditions. C'mon HHS & NIH & FCC. Time to get your act together, to adequately protect consumers during this complex digital communication era. The USA is becoming the digital era, health-care communication embarrassment of the industrialized world.
