Has Qlik given us the "Qlik Horse" with Qlik Answers? And True Data Literacy for us all?

Graphic representations and long reports can be easily misinterpreted

One of the most famous (or infamous) psychology studies was by Solomon Asch. Participants were presented with pictures of lines, and they were asked to point to the longest. That's it. Except participants repeatedly failed to point to the longest line. Why? Because there were stooges pointing at a shorter line and the peer pressure made the real participants doubt themselves.?

Graphs are easy to misinterpret. Furthermore, few people have the confidence to make a decision on a graph alone without reassurance, another person saying yes that looks right. Qlik Answers is that other person.?

Qlik has gone about analytics in a completely backwards manner. The graphs are meant to support the statements, yet Qlik has never provided statements. Any research paper explains the results and offers the graph as a visual representation. In story book terms, they've shown us pictures but not told us a thing about Peter Pan.?

Similar to Dall-E 3, Qlik Answers should be able to present you with a statement and then generate countless different ways of visually explaining said statement. "Okay, show me the increase and decrease using? a video of dogs at a bus stop." Visualisations should be whatever is memorable and explains the numbers best for that specific person. And from a DEI perspective this means, yes, data is accessible to neurodivergent users too.?

As far as long reports go, important details are missed. Or you waste time searching for the specific file, and paragraph you want to reference. Just ask Qlik Answers and it will find it for you, even if you paraphrase. This will save you hours. Research is about idea generation and thinking up new ways to connect the dots, not searching for things.?

Cerberus now works at Argos

Donald Farmer had a saying, "that in the past we had data gatekeepers, and now they must become data shopkeepers.

This is what a rollout of Qlik Answers is. You are empowering customers and your own employees with data for them to use.?

As an employee you are given two incentives at work, a bonus or advancement. However what leads to those isn't 'just showing up', hence the problems with 'Quiet quitting'. The drivers are initiative and sound decision making. Yet we only track that people show up and do what they are supposed to do, we fail at empowering employees to succeed. When an employee succeeds, the company grows.?

Qlik Answers supports new initiatives and decision making. If an employee works in a shop, why can't they be offered that location's data for sales figures? At a basic level if a manager wants to place a product in a prime position to increase sales they can ASK the data if it is likely to work or not. To take this further, when instigating a new initiative, they can be alerted as to whether it's working or not. This is agility at it's finest. Without a single meeting, a seemingly small idea can be tested with minimal risk.?

As Seth Godin would say, this encourages employees to poke the box. Question everything without wasting time. If you need approval, have a meeting and deliver a solid proposal with proven data and projections. All from the data you as a data shopkeeper have delivered to them through Qlik Answers.

Customer profiling has not been adequately leveraged to provide a better customer experience, or,? 'The usual, Charlie?'

You walk into the shop, like you do every Tuesday. The camera recognises you and sends a WhatsApp to a member of staff to ensure that the items you buy every Tuesday are available for you. And if they're not, they can explain the situation to you and offer substitutions instead of you spending 10 minutes looking around shelves. Similarly if your regular purchases are based in a different location, you can be notified via email with a picture of the new location.?

For chains like Subway, or transportation systems that have a selling point of speed, predicting the behaviour of your regulars is a win for everyone.?

The objection is that it's an invasion of privacy. The reality is that this data is being 'sold' (marketed) and leveraged already, just not to serve you, the customer.?

Image: Imagine a strong, determined horse labelled "Qlik" to represent Qlik Answers pulling an old-fashioned rag-and-bone cart. The cart is filled with various types of data "artifacts" — things like scrolls (representing reports), glowing cubes (for data models), gears (symbolizing ETL processes), and even floating charts or graphs. Each artifact in the cart could represent different kinds of data and insights that Qlik helps you retrieve, clean, and deliver.

To enhance the metaphor:

  • The horse could be shown moving through a futuristic landscape of servers or cloud icons.
  • The rag-and-bone cart could be rusty but sturdy, showing how Qlik handles even messy, unstructured data efficiently.
  • The path could be winding, representing complex data journeys, while the horse maintains steady progress.
