Has optimizing my profile improved my job hunting?

Having updated my profile I’ve been tracking how people are finding me by my “top keywords” I am found for. I’ve been trying optimize my profile as part of my job hunting.

So has updating my LinkedIn profile improved my job hunting?

These are my observations:

• Keyword search is more of an indication about your profile fit than “being found by the right people”
• Optimizing my profile has lead to being contacted by a number of recruiters, so I’m heading in the right direction, but it’s not perfect
• I tend to be found by peers, but rarely by recruiters
• The number of searches I appear in are very low

Here are the steps I’m taking:

1. Focus on the past 10-15 years of career history
2. Updating my profile with a précis of my résumé
3. Creating a LinkedIn content strategy aligned with the role I’m looking for

The best opportunities I’ve had so far have been through my network. I’ve had some direct contact from recruiters, but often their opportunities are not a good fit & we qualify each other out of the process.

What updating my LinkedIn profile has done is make me much more focused on what my next role should be (and what it shouldn’t be!). For this reason, I am going to continue optimizing my LinkedIn profile!
