Has Lockdown Throat Punched your Business?

Really? Really? Are we here again..

The first time we went into lockdown I said I didn't want to be in this position again as in unable to work in my business, the second time I said the same thing... and here we are again third time lucky!

I have gratitude, I have awareness that there are others worse off than us. I also have sadness and anger and those emotions can have their say here also.

Banging the brakes on and not being able to push my business forward is ridiculous and goes against the very thing that gets me up bouncing out of bed in the morning.

Each time we are locked down I go through all the stages of grief for my business intentions as I watch them being throat punched by the decisions being made by others.

It is actually heart breaking. It takes a certain type of person to be self employed, I am pretty certain one of the traits isn't sitting on your arse not be able to grow your business for two months.

Yeah yeah a "team of 5 million", "we're all in this together", "it's the right thing to do", "adapt", "its your choice to work for yourself", "think of the alternatives".. I get it, I'm doing it, I am officially LOCKED DOWN.

Anyhow, did I sit on my ass? no of course I didn't, let me fill you in.

I ADAPTED, ADDED TO MY TOOLKIT and I am EXPANDING MY KNOWLEDGE.

If I can't work with people, what can I work with? PRODUCTS for sure!

I dabbled in this a few years back, it just didn't float my boat as much as working with people do. But when the choice is taken away, and there are no people to work with, then we do what we have to do to keep pushing forward wherever we see an opportunity.

So I did some study, brushed up on my skills and purchased some new tools for my studio, thank you Topic Photography for being there to support my business every step of the way.

I am very grateful to work with some wonderful clients who sell amazing products that are so aligned with me and my values. I put it out there that I was available to do this work, and a few of them came back and engaged my services. At the same time Kim Schofield Managing Partner of Dancing Water Winery reached out to me.

I have had such a great time this last few weeks creating beautiful images of Kim's products and the packaging options they offer.

I have followed Dancing Water's story with interest since I originally worked with Kim on her portrait folio. The more I understood, the more I embraced and embodied her values and I know that this comes out in the imagery I produce for her.

The wine they produce is special, so much so, I gift it to my clients with the knowledge that they will receive a unique experience, it's aligned with me. This beautifully presented, exclusive selection of wine along with their magical backstory delivers an exquisite tasting every time.

Alright then, so I turned a crappy situation into a win. I got throat punched by lockdown but I got back up and fought back.

I have new capability, new technology, new hardware and a new found passion for a different genre of photography. All of which will add value to my clients and my business.
