Has Apple lost its Core?

I've been an Apple convert since around 2008 when I bought my first "Big Mac" for making music. I eventually converted my business to use Macbook Pro's once I realised that the urban myths surrounding incompatibility with Windows were largely myths. No more "blue screens of death" and lots of other things that have saved me time as compared with my PC. For example, I used to manage to travel two stops on the train before my windows PC would allow me to use it after completing startup rituals. As soon as I was in my seat I'd be up an running with the mac, saving me time every day. Plus great battery life and so on.
Recently my 21 year old geeky son told me not to buy a new Macbook Pro, saying that Apple are no longer what they were in the post Steve Jobs era - he had just switched back to PC after being a loyal Apple user himself. I considered that switching my business back too much hassle and bought a new Macbook Pro against his advice. He mentions it occasionally ! :-)
Recently my new Macbook keeps disconnecting from the internet every 5-10 minutes making it impossible to use it for a host of things. I investigated. It is not my internet service provider, Virgin Media, who have patiently exhausted all the options available to them. On googling the issue it turns out that there is a long trail of issues associated with the new Operating System "El Capitan", amongst them exactly the fault I described. Someone on one of the forums summed up my feelings about Apple:
"Remember when anything Apple released just worked . . . with minor issues needed for updates"
The problem remains unresolved as I write. I am also told I am unable to uninstall "El Crapitan" to bypass the problem although the advice is mixed from the various "experts". Other problems have come to light with OS compatibility with new music equipment I own from Line 6 (see below), who have behaved in an open and transparent manner about the conflict and their intentions to resolve it. As the people at the top of the food chain, I believe that Apple have moral responsibility to let their OEM's and customers know about new releases early enough so that they may make the necessary adjustments before release rather than after. We now seem to be part of a beta testing regime or an unregulated clinical trial - one of the reasons I moved away from Windows, which is why I ask the question:
Has Apple lost its Core Values?
If you are out there Tim Cook (Apple's CEO, no relation to my son Thomas Cook) any thoughts?

9 年Same happened to a friend of mine last week. Very tech savvy and long time Apple afficionado he is now on 3rd line of Apple (non) support with no resolution in sight as of yesterday.

9 年Hi Pete, I experienced major issues with the El Capitan upgrade which took more than 2 weeks to resolve. One thing I can share with you is that you can uninstall El Capitan (I had to do this as part of the recovery). I will send you an email. Nick

9 年One thing I learnt from Windows was never to install an upgrade until six months later when, hopefully all the problems had been debugged. So I'm sticking with Yosemite until next spring!

9 年That is such an interesting contribution Peter. Have, with 40 - 50 year old 'savvy' off-spring, had very similar experience..... however....against all advice, recently installed El Capitan and have to report a quite extraordinary improvement in performance.....! Gosh - I DO so wish I understood these wretched 'machines' and their working.
