Has Angular Js reached the end of life? What is next?

Released by Google in 2010, AngularJS reached end-of-life (EOL) status on December 31, 2021. It means the long-term support will be ceased from the community. But the story of Angularjs doesn’t end here; Angularjs users still can get some relief and support from 3rd parties available in the competitive market. Now, Angular has officially discontinued long-term support (LTS) for the first version of the Angular framework AngularJS released in 2010. All subsequently released versions are known as Angular.?

In a blog post, Mark Thompson, developer advocate on the Angular Team at Google, says, “We’re incredibly proud of the work that has been done with AngularJS and the way it evolved into its successor, Angular, which empowers an ecosystem of millions of developers. For many (including many of us on the team), AngularJS has been a life-changing technology, and we’re grateful to have been a part of so many development stories. AngularJS set a solid foundation for Angular and helped define the future of the web. Thank you for taking that journey with us, and we hope that you continue the journey with us on Angular.”

Angularjs popularity?

Angularjs has been an excellent option for designing a web app that is dynamic and responsive since its inception in 2009. The front-end web framework enables two-way data binding. It utilizes HTML as a template language and creates an environment for app development. Angular allows developers to make more reusable codes and increases efficiency. That is why AngularJS web app development companies are in great demand. Look at reasons why it is ok to opt for AngularJS or Angular.

? AngularJS features make it a logical alternative for advanced web app development.

? It is superb for Blockchain-based apps built on a JavaScript framework.

? Single page apps offer improved navigation and information in an easy-to-understand way.

? AngularJS has a big community and solid foundation.

Is it right to upgrade to Angular from AngularJS?

It is common and always worthwhile to upgrade to a new technology version. But, the prime question that still makes you scratch your head is – What is the right time to upgrade to a more recent Angular version? Look at the following situations when it is sensible to upgrade to Angular from AngularJS.?

? When you need to develop complex web apps.

? When it is imperative to develop mobile apps.

? When you don’t want to go through a complex setup.

? When you are into the development of smaller web apps only.

What is next (Future of AngularJS)

Angularjs successor Angular and updated versions are a different framework, rewritten in TypeScript, to offer static typing, support for development experience, and identify bugs in advance. Javier Perez, the open-source evangelist at Perforce, talks about the risks after EOL status for AngularJS. He says, ”When an open-source community long-term support reaches end-of-life (EOL), no more patches are released. For users, the risk of using EOL versions of software is that if a new high severity or critical vulnerability is discovered, no patches will be available.” Now, AngularJS users have the following four alternatives, including?

? maintaining the app on AngularJS and getting support,

? protecting the app on AngularJS with EOL risks,

? rewriting apps to the newer versions of Angular, or

? rewriting apps using other JavaScript frameworks.

The Angular development team encourages developers to migrate all AngularJS apps to Angular 2 or higher versions. Developers also need to migrate apps using ngUpgrade, a library that allows Angular and AngularJS to run in the same app to allow for incremental migration. Note that content delivery network (CDN) links for AngularJS will remain active.

AngularJS.org will still stay online. The AngularJs team will also record the AngularJS repository on GitHub. The team will also offer read-only access to code, issue, and pull request history. Finally, npm packages for AngularJS will still be available on npm and bower (marked as deprecated).?

Going beyond

Companies with Angularjs applications can also take Angularjs development services from Angular app developers who have expertise and experience in developing complex single-page, eCommerce, FinTech, networking, real-time, streaming apps, and microservices architecture using Angular front-end technology.

Developers can also move to other JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue if they feel comfortable.
