Has America Become The Over Promise-under deliver Business Capital ???

Solving The World's Number 1 Biz Problem
After 5 automated 'Meeting Reminders' we might expect the other person to - y'know -be there for the call . But nohhhhhh .
I've heard so many excuses ... I wasn't at my phone ( duh !! ) , I got called away to a client . I've even seen the Scheduler set up to make you pick 3 meeting times, making the process a waste of time before you start .
There is the occasional pure mistake and genuine apology of course, but this seems to be a thinly veiled veneer over something called ' I really don't give a s**t' as a mentality that seemingly has grown amongst US business interactions .
As a Brit , I know all about excuses-we love a good ( bs) story , but we usually accompany everything with an apology- at least . Personally-professionally, I've grown up loving doing business the American way - I guess. The energy, the Can Do attitude, the Zig Ziglar stories- but it feels like something MAJOR has changed .
In the event of failure to honour meeting times, now- there is rarely an apology. Even to the point that ' it was a client call ' so you as a new relationship call get ditched.
SORRY >>>>> but that's plain RUDE. Badly organised at best . Often this is also accompanied with the odd remark ( excuse ) that MAKES it the new relationships fault. The apology if offered can be through gritted teeth to put it mildly .
Call me 'old fashioned' ( I'm not ..but call me it if you like) but today in a world that is more 5000 Twitter Followers than it is ' Being respectful to 10 people you/we work closely with' MANNERS MATTERS MORE THAN EVER . Particularly if you believe that TRUST plays a key role in biz relationships on a medium like Linked In !
So my American biz buddies ... beware automating yourself out of business - certainly out of TRUST . You revolutionised customer service. Have you forgotten how to be ... nice . And lost most of your HUMILITY that once made you great ???
May be time for one of those Check Ups From The Neck Up .... as we increasingly ALL connect as a big global collaborative economy . Chill out ... put your hands up ( if you make a mistake). These are key values in an ever connecting world .
Are we -ALL really- ready to stop hiding behind technology for our excuses and focus on RELATIONAL media .. where we actually talk to & with each other ? Time for that Leap of Faith Version 2017. Manners and humility will prevail . ML

5 年Excellent reminder, Mark! Of course there can be genuine reasons for a missed call or a late arrival, but those should, as you point out, be followed as quickly as possible with an apology. A 'no show' without an apology sends a clear signal that says'my time is more important than yours'.? All great working relationships depend on mutual respect and recognition.
