Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Resigns: BJP-JJP Alliance Cracks Amid Speculated Rift

According to a Haryana government spokesperson, Khattar and his cabinet colleagues submitted their resignation letters to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. Speculation mounts over the underlying cause, with many attributing it to the strained relationship between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) alliance.

Reports suggest that Khattar is eyeing a potential candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Karnal seat. Meanwhile, sources indicate that Nayab Saini, BJP's state president, is poised to succeed Khattar as the next Chief Minister of Haryana.

The fissures within the BJP-JJP coalition escalated over disagreements concerning seat-sharing arrangements for the impending Lok Sabha polls. Efforts to reconcile differences included the dispatch of Union Minister Arjun Munda and party General Secretary Tarun Chugh as central observers to Chandigarh.

The BJP's dominance in Haryana politics was evident in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where it secured victory in all 10 seats. However, recent developments, including the defection of BJP's Hisar MP Brijendra Singh to Congress, have further strained the alliance.

The BJP and JJP alliance was formed following the 2019 assembly polls, where the BJP fell short of a majority. With the BJP holding 41 seats and support from five independent MLAs, it maintained a fragile grip on power. In contrast, the JJP possesses 10 MLAs, while the Congress boasts 30 in the 90-member Haryana Assembly.

Amidst the political upheaval, the BJP asserts confidence in its numerical strength, emphasizing the combined support of its MLAs and independent allies.

As the dust settles on this unexpected resignation, Haryana braces for the repercussions of this seismic shift in its political landscape. Stay tuned with Dainik Bhaskar as we continue to bring you the latest updates around this story.
