HarveLite LED V.S HPS

HPS have played an indelible value in the development of greenhouses and indoor planting. However, with the continuous improvement of indoor planting requirements and the emphasis on energy saving, LED has gradually become the main force of the horticulture lighting market at present and in the future.

We compared and experimented with HarveLite LED and HPS lamp in our experiments and actual planting projects of our customers, and obtained obvious conclusion.

 

1. The main advantages of HarveLite LED compared to HPS are:

Accelerate growth

Increase production capacity

Improve quality

Improve energy efficiency and reduce power consumption

Reduce plant shrinkage

 

2. Now people are not only satisfied with the normal planting process in the greenhouse and indoor. People have more requirement on quality of crops.

The spectrum of HPS is fixed and cannot be effectively adjusted for crops.

With HarveLite LED, you can use spectrum to provide a suitable light recipte, enhance the accumulation of plant anthocyanins, darken colors, improve odor, and so on. This is a job that traditional HPS light sources or sunlight cannot accomplish.

 

3. Some horizontal comparisons on data

Through the above simple comparison, we can know that using HarveLite LED to replace HPS can bring the following benefits:

(1) 455W lighting power saving

(2) Reduced heat

(3) Reduce material and labor costs

(4) Higher spectral utilization rate-more in line with the photosynthetically active radiation absorption curve

 

4. The spectrum of HPS is rich in yellow. The effective utilization rate for plants in its spectrum is not high, especially the lack of blue light.

Comparison of HPS spectrum and McCree curve.

 HPS contains infrared radiation from heating objects, Less blue light will cause stretching.

Lots of yellow light, but not enough deep red.

 

The HarveLite LED full spectrum is more in line with the photosynthetic absorption curve of plants. After correcting and calculating according to the McCree absorption curve, the efficiency of the full spectrum is higher than that of the HPS spectrum.

5. PAR value maintenance rate

Comparing the maintenance rate, it can be seen that the best HPS PAR value fluctuates greatly. At the end of the 10,000-hour lifetime, the light decays to 90% of the initial value, and the light source needs to be replaced once. And HarveLite LED products do not need to replace the light source. This will save growers a lot of consumables and labor costs.

6.Reduced heat helps improve energy efficiency

Excessive heat is generated when using HPS.

HPS produce a lot of heat radiation, which causes the temperature in upper part of the greenhouse to be very high, which affects the entire greenhouse temperature control.

When the upper temperature is high, the heating tube at the bottom root system cannot work, and the root may be cold.

When the windows are opened for ventilation, the temperature in the greenhouse drops but CO2 is also lost.

 

7. Fred Heinrich, a grower located in Germany, kept part of the original HPS in his tomato greenhouse, and compared it with HarveLite LED full-spectrum light for planting experiments. The results after 2 rounds of planting showed:

The average output of HarveLite LED full-spectrum has increased by 11% over HPS.

 

Fred Heinrich said: "After testing, it was found that HarveLite LED not only saves electricity but also improves the yield and taste of tomatoes. So I made the decision to replace the entire greenhouse with HarveLite LED."
