Harnessing SAP Signavio for seamless Thickness Monitoring (CML) Asset Integrity Business Process Management

As one of the SAP strategic partners, AsInt has introduced its latest Mechanical Integrity Suite utilizing SAP PaaS cloud technology, called SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform). The suite of applications consists of Asset Inspection, CMLs (Condition Monitoring Locations), Asset Strategy Development (Risk-based Inspection), Remedials, and Inspection Planning. In the following blog, we will discuss how AsInt is solving the problem related to a standardized business process for thickness monitoring by harnessing the power of SAP Signavio. SAP Signavio allows the business process to be defined clearly, including how it interacts with the users and other applications.

The Problem Statement

When it comes to Thickness Monitoring, the major concern is the involvement of different functions like Inspections, Thickness Recording, Thickness Analysis, Generating Recommendations, Site Implementations of those recommendations, and the learning loop continues. It's worth noting that there is only one platform that can handle all the functions, especially the site implementation part, which includes Work Order and Maintenance Plan management for effective execution and record work history. Even today, major organizations are either doing it manually (heavy-sized Excel spreadsheets and PDFs) or using standalone software tools to complete the end-to-end workflow. In addition, as of today, every business unit has its version of the business processes, and there needs to be more harmonization within the organization. With AsInt's Mechanical Integrity Suite and out-of-the-box SAP Signavio Process Flows, the processes become lean and seamless, especially with the integration and ingestion of SAP master data from the source systems of truth, such as SAP S4/HANA and ECC.

The Solution

Let's take a closer look at the broader business process flow by utilizing the SAP Signavio application. This will help us comprehend how different steps within the business process interact with one another to execute the Thickness Monitoring process effectively, as per the organization's predetermined business flow.

1. CMLs Management (AsInt CMLs Application)

The first part of the business process deals with the CML's creation or recording of thickness readings through Data Loggers or CSV files during an inspection event. The thickness readings will be stored in the Database and will be utilized for thickness analysis to obtain remaining life and Short- and Long-term Corrosion rates. The CMLs created on this application will be stored as master data since there will be a lot of CMLs created for each asset.

2. Inspection Planning

The CMLs' data on the asset will be assigned to the maintenance plans or the work orders for further execution.

3. Assigning CMLs, Work Orders, and Notifications to Inspections (AsInt Asset Inspection Application)

The AsInt Asset Inspection application will be utilized to record thickness readings for each inspection conducted. It's important to note that users have the flexibility to record readings in both the CMLs Application and the Asset Inspection application. Furthermore, the Notifications and Work Orders generated by the Maintenance Plan application will be used within the Asset Inspection Application as assignment objects to have a closed loop. This integration is instrumental in completing the Thickness Monitoring Business Process, allowing for effective cost and resource tracking.

4. Benefits of a streamlined business process flow

First, having a defined business process enterprise-wide will solve most of the deviations and bottlenecks. Understanding the complexity of the business processes with throws and catches to multiple teams and departments is the biggest challenge, which business process owners need to gauge during process discovery. Sticking to the standardized business process will open the areas to perform conformance checking adherence to the business process steps and finally provide insights on the deviations and action-oriented process maturity analysis.
