Harnessing Experience: Uniting Efforts for Climate Change

Harnessing Experience: Uniting Efforts for Climate Change

The global community is experiencing an awakening. Every day, I discover another new organization, freshly minted within the last 12 to 24 months, professing to be the next great solution to climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty, and more. It is an exhilarating time to see so many entities rising, mirroring the urgency and scale of the work that lies ahead. However, as I delve deeper into many of these nascent organizations, I often discover a disconcerting reality - they are frequently led by talented individuals who, until recently, were outsiders to the fields of climate, sustainability, and regeneration.

These newcomers bring a range of skills - investment acumen, media expertise, graphic design, entrepreneurial success. They employ business flair to conjure engaging websites and compelling narratives. Yet, there’s a conspicuous void - where is their grounding in climate solutions? Some have express their gratitude to me and my team, crediting my book and TED Conferences talk on #Drawdown as their catalyst for change. I'm flattered, but TED talks or book catalogue doesn’t equip one with the depth of knowledge and experience necessary to steer organizations implementing climate solutions.

This is not an indictment of these founders; rather, it's an appeal for reflection. We unquestionably need their talents, their drive, their resources. Yet I find myself questioning whether the climate movement is best served by a proliferation of organizations inexpereinced with the issues they are trying to solve vying for resources, fragmenting efforts, and competing for attention. There are already numerous existing organizations and initiatives that carry a deep well of knowledge and experience in this space. Couldn't these newcomers amplify their impact by bolstering these already established entities, rather than creating new ones?

Let's stand together, joining forces with those who have toiled in this field for decades, to magnify our collective power.

Don't get me wrong. I deeply appreciate all the technology, investor, and media founders joining the fight. We need all hands on deck. But it seems to me that the constantly expanding galaxy of organizations led by climate novices could be contributing to confusion and dilution of effort rather than the consolidation and amplification of impact we so desperately need.

I propose an alternative approach - one of partnership and collaboration. Instead of launching a new organization, consider lending your expertise to an established group. Amplify their work with your skills, your time, your resources. In a world where the existential threat of climate change is present today, isn't it time we pool our strengths rather than scatter them?

To all would-be founders, I beseech you - we welcome your energy, your dedication, and your innovation. But instead of creating yet another new entity, why not enrich an existing one? Let's stand together, joining forces with those who have toiled in this field for decades, to magnify our collective power. We need unity, not fragmentation; cohesion, not competition. The world has never needed us more, and the time to act is now.

To all potential founders contemplating a venture in this critical arena, I urge you to reach out to those who inspire you—like myself or others championing climate solutions, sustainability, and regeneration. Seriously, DM me. We can provide guidance on where your expertise and dedication would make the most significant impact. It could be within our organizations, or we could point you to others who are in dire need of your unique skillset and brilliance.

We are at a pivotal juncture, and every informed, dedicated action makes a difference in the fight against climate change.

Maybe someone with analytical skills like Chad Frischmann and other OGs of Drawdown can make a similar site for water stress and conservation solutions. Mapped measured and modeled, or some other presentation of a solution Library!
