Harnessing AI in Continous Learning & Development
Introduction:
In a rapidly evolving landscape of continuous growth, Artificial Intelligence (AI) poises as a pivotal catalyst to enabling transformative change. The shift towards open-source environments marks a significant turn in the landscape previously dominated by tech giants, who long held exclusive control over their technological 'castles'.
This struggle for control, which played out in legal controversies such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), underscores the ongoing tension between open-source innovation and the proprietary approach favored by many corporations. A complex interplay between protecting intellectual property rights and promoting communal access to technology was among us, presenting a nuanced landscape of technological development and dissemination. Ultimately, the open source coding environment won, while corporations and innovative minds managed to maintain materialistic incentive for innovation.
So what happened next? Why didn't we reach the point we're at now 10 or 20 years ago? Artificial Intelligence was the missing key. Deep learning models that could retain colossol amounts of data were still in early development.
If it weren't for OpenAI, I would not be able to stand here today and say that I've successfully wrote a typescript code in Excel that automated scheduling of contractors working weekly Per Diem schedules, or that I developed a process using PowerAutomate to validate billing data to proactively resolve pay issues come Friday. I wouldn't even be able to tell you what the difference between an [ARRAY] and a (STR) were.
Learning coding languages can be challenging due to their robust and extensive dictionaries, which are constantly expanding. OpenAI has undoubtedly helped bring novice coders to an intermediate level and it's certainly helped advanced coders save time and effort as well as spark innovative and creative solutions.
In addition to the deep learning models becoming accessible to the public, so have API's. I find myself occassionally spelunking into Microsoft's File Manager, Task Viewer, System Manager.... some of these resources were always available to us. Only now has it dawned on me, this knowledge is incredibly useful to my everyday life and can be crucial in creating tools and processes that will inevitably enhance the lives of those around me.
However there stands to be a good number of software companies that choose to withhold their API's. They might be preventing other's from making money and, more importantly, tools for process improvement and efficiency with this approach. However I have not seen empirical data that suggests these companies see increased profits by being restrictive. That might be in part due to the majority embracing open source as the norm and what is expected.
