Harness unique unparalleled skills and brain power that gets lost under the stigma of "learning challenges" and a regimented education system

There is a lot more to diversity and inclusion to drive shareholder value- than just looking at gender, ethnic, experiential diversity. Most Fortune 500 companies hire only from the top rated campuses across the world, which in turn hire basis SAT/ CAT scores and so on.
Somewhere in the pool of new talent is a group of approximately 8-10% young adults with probably superior computing power, analytical thinking, creative inclinations however with poor academic performance in a regimented system which hasn't really evolved to assess much less grade their abilities when buried under dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD or even autism.
Corporates and society at large has so much to gain, if we are able to identify these individuals with their talents at a very young age- and support their development through practical learning methods or remove the hurdles of university degrees and grades while looking for talent, and instead focus on hearing their stories, aspirations, how they analyse a business problem by reaching out to this pool- they have the potential to significantly multiply value creation several times.
A significantly large proportion of accomplished professionals have had these unique orientations , and platforms that pulled them out of misery of traditional learning challenges.
Albert Einstein, Tommy Hilfiger, James Sorenson had dyslexia and dysgraphia- illegible handwritings and very poor grades. Yet they made great scientists, designers, business leaders. Some of them have such immense computing power and envisioning skills that they can easily outshine high performing stock analysts, wealth management advisors and so on.
While we recognise the value diversity brings to the table, its time for leaders to devise progressive recruitment and people policies to reach out for deeper diversity in abilities and skills- beyond the traditional hunting grounds--- there are these super blessed brains waiting to be tapped to bring on value for all of us.

3 年Very well written!! Cultural and gender diversity are becoming a norm now however embracing diversity in learning is something that requires efforts from everyone!! Now educators are working towards instilling this as a character strength in our young learners but I wonder who will be looking after the ones who are seeking opportunities that focuses on their gifts, strengths and talents rather than weighing between strengthes and areas of improvement. I also acknowledge the fact that every change takes time to become a norm. However, this time span can be reduced when we all work together. After learning alongside with my students, I came to this realisation that we all are unique and have many more things to offer to each other. Children who might have additional needs in learning the traditional way, and might have exceptional observation skill/ perspective and offer such unique and practical insights - it’s worth the effort for corporates to take them for internships and appreciate the value they can bring in their chosen fields.?
