Three Truths About Winners and Why You Can’t ‘Save People’

We all have someone in our lives we wish we could save, whether it’s about their health, mindset, beliefs, or lifestyle. The desire to help is universal, and let's be honest, someone probably feels the same way about us. But there are three truths about change and transformation:

1. If They Wanted To, They Would: Change has to come from within. No amount of external pressure will work unless they truly want to change.

2. You Can’t Make Somebody Change: Real change happens when the heart is impacted. It’s about encounters that spark a desire for something different. Instead of forcing change, channel that energy into something constructive and watch it blossom.

3. Stop Being Mad at People for Not Being Who You Want Them to Be: Living an empowered life means showing the fruit of your labor. When anger or resentment creeps in, you lose the opportunity to impact others positively.

I explore these concepts in my book, The Power of Ownership. One story involves Erwin McManus and a lesson from the Navy SEALs: when rescuing people from a shipwreck, they save those swimming towards the helicopter first. Be the person swimming towards the guide, coach, or accountability partner. That's where change begins.

Discovering Clarity Through Journaling

This weekend, I joined our Couples Collective men for a retreat filled with activities like golf, hiking, and spa relaxation. Amidst it all, I found unexpected clarity. After 5 cycles of sauna and cold plunges, sitting by a river without an agenda brought insights. It reminded me that breakthroughs come from embracing silence and reflection.

You can achieve this clarity too by taking intentional pauses. Whether through a routine or moments of solitude, create an environment for insight. Make time to ask deep questions and listen for answers. Like I talked about last week, quiet moments often lead to significant breakthroughs in both personal and professional life.?

To incorporate more journaling and tranquility into my routine, I intend to:?

  • Indulge in sauna sessions?
  • Go on silent walks?
  • Engage in meditation and breathwork?

What steps will you take to find clarity through journaling??

Maximize Your Travel Success

It’s not easy to keep your health routine while traveling. Given all of my travels this summer, I’ve shared a lot about this. And the reality is, I’m not perfect at it. Here’s what I learned from being on the road the past eight days…

Travel disrupted my schedule, but I pushed through. Having recently started a new regime, I prioritized the workouts from that programming. I got two done at 100% and two more at 65% complete. I knew with the resources I had, the other three would have been hard to fit in, so instead I threw in a 4-mile run, the Murph workout, a golf round, and a 5-mile hike.?

I didn’t miss a day of working out, by bending but not breaking. And I returned home to a track workout and celebrated my fastest 1km run–a clear indicator that progress is what matters. That consistency is what counts.

In the past, this “lack of perfection” would have crushed me. But today, I can confidently say, this IS A WIN. Consistency and adaptability is what matters when it comes to your health. That’s exactly why we create Travel Playbooks for our clients to ensure they get the reps in when they are away from home. Want to learn more? Click here.

I’m excited to be home with only 10 travel days over the next eight weeks. This gives me a chance to establish a solid home routine that gives my travel routine the ability to be flexible. I’ll share more about that solid foundation in the coming weeks, but here are three things to remember when you hit the road:

  1. Leverage what you have
  2. Focus on what’s working
  3. Consider what’s convenient

In my latest podcast, I explore these concepts of flexibility, consistency, and routine with Justin Noppé, one of OWN IT’s mindset coaches. He shares about his transformation journey, explores the tension between our current selves and our aspirations, and highlights how mindset shapes behaviors and success.
