Excel is a very powerful tool – and its strength comes from its flexibility and adaptability. In addition, there are many ways to use Excel to achieve the same objective. This often leads, over time, to your spreadsheet portfolio becoming un-manageable.
Danger - A large number of people work in silos and then at some point all the efforts of individuals MUST be combined for the “View From The Top” – that’s you!
Solution - In resolving many of the issues with your Excel portfolio, your team will be more productive – and you will get better results and faster results.
B. THE BASICS OF TAMING
This series provides solid methods to use to control your spreadsheet portfolio and enhance the functionality of reporting.
Danger - In a desire for ever increased use of analysis, the basics of spreadsheet design and data feeds have got lost.
Solution - The "Back to Basics" techniques presented in this series will enhance Excel simultaneously increase team productivity.
C. WHERE DO I FIND A TAMER?
(i) Internal experts in your company may already be available

(ii) Existing staff can be trained up and become experts
(iii) External experts can be brought in to generate speedy change
Danger - In using internal experts, they are unlikely to see many of the problems as they are too immersed in the current processes.
Solution - Bring in external expert - not only do you get a quicker solution you will gain a vast number of different alternatives.
D. INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL
Internal experts will be less costly and less risky than using an outside consultant. Although they may lack objectivity and depth of experience.
I suspect that if you are reading this, you are aware that the issues may be larger and more impactful than your current team can resolve.
