Uniting Virtually: Bringing Together Diverse Perspectives from Different Locations for Harmony Day

Harmony Day at TAG

Last week, at Training Alliance Group, we marked Harmony Week with an online presentation and quiz, engaging employees across various locations. This event served as a powerful reminder that our diversity is our strength.

In keeping with the spirit of Harmony Week, we also reinforced a vital message: Racism is Never Acceptable. We urge everyone to remember: should you ever face racial discrimination, harassment, or hatred, it's crucial to stand firm and raise your voice.

Here’s What You Can Do:

  • Recognise and Understand: Learn to recognise forms of racial discrimination and understand its impact on individuals and communities.
  • Speak Up: If you witness or experience racial discrimination, harassment, or hatred, raise your voice against it. Silence often acts as an enabler.
  • Provide Support: Be an ally to those affected by racial discrimination. Offer your support, whether it's emotional, legal, or by providing resources.
  • Take Evidence: Record the incident on your phone, take a photo of the perpetrator and report it to authorities.

What to Avoid:

  • Don't Ignore: Ignoring racism doesn't make it go away. It can perpetuate a culture where discrimination is overlooked or normalised.
  • Don't Stay Silent: Not speaking up when you see something wrong only helps the person doing wrong. Your voice is a powerful tool against discrimination.
  • Don't Retaliate with Hate: Responding to racism with hatred or aggression can escalate situations and detract from the goal of achieving equality and respect for all.
  • Don't Act Alone: If you're unsure how to help or respond to an incident of racial discrimination, seek support from others. Working together makes us stronger and more effective.

Need Help?

  • In Emergencies: Dial Triple Zero (000) for life-threatening situations.
  • For Non-Emergency Police Assistance: Call 131 444.
  • To File a Complaint: Contact the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).
  • For Mental Health Support: Reach out to Beyond Blue at any time on 1800 512 348.

Let’s stand together against racism and build a community that cherishes diversity and inclusivity.
