Harmonizing with Nature: Embracing Circadian Rhythms for Improved Health and Success

Here's one thing I know - Most of you are not in sync with your body's rhythm. Here's another thing I know- Being "out-of-sync" isn't serving you in your life, at all. You're challenged by sleep problems, weight gain, operating on low energy, and an inability to focus throughout the day.

In today's fast-paced world, where the hustle and bustle of daily life often take precedence over our well-being, it's easy to lose sight of the natural rhythms that govern our bodies and minds. Yet, by reconnecting with the innate wisdom of your circadian rhythms, you can unlock a world of vitality, happiness, and sustained energy.

In this article, I'll introduce you to circadian rhythm, why it's so crucial to go back to it, and how it will serve you more flow in your life, leading to success and high energy levels!


- Natural Rhythms

There are three natural rhythms in this world:

  1. Infradian rhythm: 28 days/3 months/7-9 years. Think of the weather seasons, the moon cycle, and the menstrual cycle.
  2. Circadian rhythm: 24 hours. It's regulated by day, night, and temperature.
  3. Ultradian rhythm: A few seconds. Comes from a fright state, not really a rhythm.

At the heart of our bodily processes lies the circadian rhythm—a finely tuned internal clock that regulates countless bodily functions, from sleep-wake cycles to hormone regulation, body temperature, and neurotransmitters. This complex system is synchronized with the daily cycle of daylight and darkness (the night), coordinating a harmonious blend of physiological changes that ebb and flow throughout the day.

Therefore, many who fail to adhere to the circadian rhythm will experience hormone imbalances and health symptoms.

- Understand our DNA

Back in the day, our ancestors lived in sync with nature's rhythms. They'd rise with the sun and wind down with the moon. But now, artificial lights and electronic gadgets have changed that. However, that's not the only disrupter. The society also created artificial clocks that affect our body's internal clock:

  • It’s 365 days of summer time because of light (laptop, lamps, television)
  • Unnatural summer and winter time for parts of the world
  • Fixed work hours
  • All types of food available throughout the year
  • Temperature regulation
  • Limited exercise
  • Shops are 24 hours open
  • Night jobs

As you can observe, our brain receives constant stimuli that hinder melatonin from functioning properly. Ideally, when the day transitions to night, the brain should receive the signal to produce melatonin, the "night hormone." Melatonin then replaces cortisol, initiating several bodily processes to prepare for sleep, facilitating falling asleep and enabling the body to rest.

By deepening our bond with nature's rhythms, we can unlock our full potential and embark on a journey toward a vibrant life and holistic wellness.

Roos Jansen many changes I’ve made thanks to you and your coaching last year. I have blocked out 2 days in my calender a month when I know I experience physical pains. I also know when to coach and when not to coach and block those times accordingly. I go to bed early once a week (8pm, and love it!). And the list goes on ?? Truly life hacking!
