Saint Dnyaneshwar was ‘People ’s Philosopher ‘.?
Born?in 13th?Century, he was instrumental in transforming the core values of philosophical epics of Hinduism like ‘Bhagvat Gita’ into easy to understand themes and fundamentals of spiritualisms. He created his common man’s language.?
Bhagvat Gita was in the domain of few intellectuals of the society. He took initiative to explain it in common language.?‘ Life is journey that is eternal continuum that is devoid of expectations of fruits’, was the theme that he communicated by spreading the ground level messages.
One of the lesser known works of Saint Dnyaneshwar among the elites but very popular among the farmers and Varkari ( those who undertake annual??pilgrimage)??is the?Haripath,??a collection of twenty-eight?short?poems ( abhangas-the unbreakable)??that are recited by?Varkaris?each day.
Haripath?ingrains the value of chanting of God’s names and gives us many insights into the correct way to live a blissful life, a life immersed in the joy of Hari or Vitthal, (avatar of Vishnu) and our own Self. Haripath stands out amidst other works like Dnyaneshwari) of Sant Dnyaneshwar mainly because it is the most popular and most chanted poems by common people.?

As PM of India Narendra ji Modi says, Indian Knowledge System and Indian tradition are??gifts to the World. But how to interpret and understand that gift unless it is translated and communicated ??
I was proud to be a guest of honour during publication of English version of Haripath, translated by Shri Ravidasji Maharaj Shirsath who is graduate of Fergusson College and doctorate in philosophy from Pune University. ‘ I??would like the Haripath to be read by Indians born and brought up abroad and even non-Indians. They should know that Abhang of Saint Dnyaneshwar is indelible link?between Spiritualism and Sustainability’.?
Proud Moment for me. Knowing more about importance of translation and even more about the transformation that translation brings!?
