Harford Family House - Annual Off the Streets Camp Out (October 28, 2002)

It's that time of year again. Before we get to ghosts, goblins, and goody bags, it's Homelessness Awareness Month?first. (It's also ADHD awareness month.) That means, me and the kids are camping outside, in the outfield at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

I love this event, Off the Streets. It's a "sleep out in support of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. This event is not about pretending to be homeless, it’s a demonstration to those experiencing homelessness that we cannot stay indoors while so many remain outside. We challenge YOU — friends, families, colleagues, churches, youth groups and organizations — to sleep on Leidos Field for this one night. Funds and awareness raised will help our mission to assist families with children and individuals experiencing homelessness achieve independence."

This is deeply personal to me on many levels, not the least of which is because some people who are injured by others end up in a downward spiral culminating in homelessness. Especially since COVID, we have seen clients struggling against the streets.
