Harfang reports on exploration results on its Pontax Property under option to Li-FT Power, ?James Bay - Eeyou Istchee, Québec
On November 16, 2022, Harfang provided an exploration update on its Pontax Property under option to Li-FT Power Ltd. (LIFT-CSE) located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region, of NW Québec.?Recall on July 21, 2022, Harfang had announced that it had entered into an option agreement with Li-FT pursuant to which Li-FT (https://li-ft.com/) has been granted the sole and exclusive option to acquire up to a 70% interest in the Pontax Property (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-pontax-activity-6955934282020175872-aOv9?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). The Pontax Property is located within Li-FT’s large regional Pontax Project (to the west of the Rupert and Moyenne projects) that they are actively exploring. The Pontax Property is composed of 287 mining claims totaling 15,323 ha and was acquired by Harfang in 2020 by map staking. The Pontax Property is located ~220 km north of Matagami and is partially accessible by the Billy-Diamond Highway. The NW part of the Pontax Property covers a portion of the structural boundary between the La Grande and Nemiscau subprovinces, likely locus of lithium-bearing pegmatites associated with structural breaks (e.g. Wabouchi, James Bay Lithium, Rose). The Pontax Property is located within the Anatacau-Pivert greenstone belt, a thin band of supracrustal rocks that occurs between the La Grande granitoid-gneiss terrane to the east and the Nemiscau sub-province to the west.
?
Intriguing till geochemistry and rock sampling results: Harfang’s discussion of results were obtained from the initial exploration program conducted by Li-FT on the Pontax Property and referenced on Li-FT’s November 15, 2022 press-release. During the summer of 2022, Li-FT completed a regional till geochemistry survey and preliminary prospecting on ?its 3 properties in the region, including on the Harfang’s Pontax Property. The goal of that exploration program was to search for lithium pegmatite mineralization beneath the extensive glacial sediment cover. The Pontax Project is within an area that was affected by the marine incursion of the Tyrell Sea at the end of the last glaciation and topographic lows are infilled with glaciomarine sediments. A cluster of till samples defining the anomaly corresponds to high values in Li-Cs-P-Nb-Ga-Mn-W-Mo ± Ta-Sn-Rb and covers an area of ~8 x 7.5 km overlapping the SW portion of Harfang’s Property. The Pontax Li anomaly is spatially associated with a granodiorite, granite, and pegmatitic granite body on the southern margin of the Pontax Project which is interpreted to be a fertile granite. Over 65 grab rock samples were collected on the Pontax Property from boulders and outcrops. The best sample, assaying 0.41% Li2O, was collected from an amphibolite adjacent to a pegmatite in a quarry located ~600m from the Billy-Diamond Highway. A pegmatite boulder collected further north on the Pontax Property assayed 0.30% Li2O. Li-FT, following extensive exploration program targeting lithium-bearing should potentially develop drill targets. Recall that Kenorland (KLD-V) had optioned the Rupert Lithium Project to Li-FT ?in return for a 10% equity interest and a 1% uncapped NSR back in July 2021 (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/kenorland-minerals-ltd-kld-v-provides-exploration-update-eric-lemieux/).
?
James Bay - Eeyou Istchee prolific for its hard rock lithium endowment: The James Bay- Eeyou Istchee area is host to ?numerous spodumene showings, 4 deposits with defined resources (Whabouchi (Nemaska Lithium), Rose (Critical Element), Cyr (Alkem) and Moblan (Sayona) (https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/sayona-mining-limited-sya-asx-otcsyaxf-reports-new-lithium-lemieux/), as well as more recent discoveries such as Corvette (Patriot Batteries Metal). We highlight other active lithium plays (see:?https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/dios-exploration-inc-dos-v-doubles-size-its-lithium33-eric-lemieux/, https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-lithium-jamesbay-activity-6943030817858207745-ktYg?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop) and note novel agreements are being realized; for example the Midland Exploration and Brunswick Exploration agreement (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-lithium-activity-6996574576524546048-9-gZ?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop).
?
Ian Campbell, President and CEO of Harfang stated: “We are very pleased with the first exploration program executed by Li-FT and the results received today. They demonstrate the presence of a large lithium-in-till anomaly occurring in part on our Property requiring further exploration work. The option with Li-FT represents the first step of our Critical and Strategic Minerals strategy of entering into partnerships that advance some of the projects in our portfolio containing significant upside for these metals and related minerals including lithium, tantalum, nickel, copper and cobalt”.

UPDATE: January 19, 2023
Harfang strengthens its critical and strategic minerals portfolio with new lithium properties, Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Québec
On January 19, 2023 Harfang announced that it has reinforced its strong land position in Eeyou Istchee James Bay, NW Québec by staking additional claims for critical and strategic minerals (CSM). This recent map designation includes 119 contiguous claims forming the new Ewart Property and the addition of 100 claims to the La Passe Property. Harfang has developed a solid portfolio of projects favorable for CSM (critical and strategic metals) such as 1) magmatic sulfide copper, nickel, platinum, palladium and chromium, and 2) pegmatite-hosted lithium, cesium and tantalum mineralization. The first group refers to the Menarik East Property (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/harfang-exploration-inc-har-v-commences-2023-program-lake-lemieux/). The second group includes the Pontax Property and the option agreement with Li-FT Power Ltd. (LIFT-CSE). Recall on July 21, 2022, Harfang had announced that it had entered into an option agreement with Li-FT (https://li-ft.com/), pursuant to which Li-FT has been granted the sole and exclusive option to acquire up to a 70% interest in the Pontax Property (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-pontax-activity-6955934282020175872-aOv9?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop).
Saliently, the Eeyou Istchee James Bay area is host to numerous spodumene showings, up to 4 deposits with defined resources: Whabouchi (Nemaska Lithium), Rose (Critical Element), Cyr (Allkem) and Moblan (Sayona) as well as more recent discoveries such as Corvette (Patriot Battery Metals) (see: (https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/sayona-mining-limited-sya-asx-otcsyaxf-reports-new-lithium-lemieux/). ?Harfang, as project generator focused in the Québec James Bay since 2017, is well positioned to generate new projects in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay area.
Ewart Property Generation: The new Ewart Property consists of 119 claims (6,146 ha) and is located in the central part of the Opinaca Subprovince, overlapping a favourable environment for hosting lithium and rare metals mineralization according to MRNFQ (Ministère des Ressources Naturelles et des Forêts du Québec). This prospective zone, characterized by the presence of layered and beryllium enriched pegmatitic intrusions, forms an aureole around a granitic intrusion hosted in paragneiss. The MRNFQ reports a complex mineralogy consisting in muscovite, tourmaline, garnet, apatite and beryl in pegmatites. To date, there is not much evidence of prospecting in the area for the more evolved S-type pegmatites that are host to economic lithium mineralization.
?
La Passe Property Expansion: The La Passe Property, now made up of 180 claims (9,265 ha), was originally generated based on its potential for gold mineralization in a geological setting reminiscent of the Eleonore gold deposit located near the structural and metamorphic boundary of the La Grande and Opinaca subprovinces. Harfang has also added 100 claims by map designation at La Passe, an area that has recently seen extensive staking activity by numerous junior mining companies. The new claims cover a group of pegmatitic and granitic dykes associated with the Vieux Comptoir Granitic Suite in a setting dominated by sedimentary rocks at the western limit of the Opinaca Subprovince.
?
Ian Campbell, President and CEO of Harfang stated: “The Eeyou Istchee James Bay region is experiencing heightened staking activity based on its abundance of lithium-bearing pegmatites including four deposits with defined resources. In addition, this region has recorded numerous recent discoveries including Corvette by Patriot Battery Metals just east of our projects underscoring the exploration potential of the area. Our team ranks amongst the most knowledgeable in Eeyou Istchee James Bay and has recently completed a detailed data compilation for targeting purposes resulting in the acquisition of the Ewart claims, and the expansion of the La Passe Property. We believe both properties have excellent potential for the discovery of lithium-bearing pegmatites. In addition, prospecting on the Serpent-Radisson Property in 2022 discovered encouraging beryllium, lithium, cesium and tantalum mineralization not previously recognized. These land acquisitions are proximal and complementary from an operational perspective to our high-grade gold projects, including Lake Menarik and Serpent-Radisson”.
?
Outlook and plans for 2023: Harfang has developed a solid portfolio of projects favorable for CSM with Menarik East Property (which includes chromium and platinum-group elements associated with ultramafic rocks (Ressources minières Pro-Or, 2009)), the Pontax Property with Li-Cs-Ta till anomalies and ?encouraging Li-Cs-Ta results in pegmatites on the flagship Serpent-Radisson Property (https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/harfang-exploration-inc-har-v-unveils-its-2022-summer-eric-lemieux/). During the next prospecting season, Harfang intends to proceed with a first-phase exploration program over the new Ewart and La Passe claims. This work shall be an integral part of the global strategy of Harfang in-sync with advancing exploration on its high-grade gold projects. Exploration work has begun on the Lake Menarik Property with a pending diamond drilling set to commence in mid-February 2023.

UPDATE: February 8, 2023
Harfang continues to expand its portfolio of lithium projects, Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Québec
?
On February 8, 2023, Harfang announced that it again expanded its portfolio of lithium projects in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of NW Québec. The Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec is emerging as a lithium hotspot located in one of the best mining jurisdictions in the World. Harfang’s new assets are distributed throughout the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region and were acquired by map designation. Harfang continues to solidify a strong CSM portfolio of exploration assets. We understand that Harfang is one of the largest landholders in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region with its 172,014ha (3,323 claims) and is well positioned for the discovery of both gold and lithium deposits. We note that that Midland Exploration (MD-V) holds 197,500ha (3,814 claims) ?(https://midlandexploration.com/en/2023/01/30/midland-identifies-several-promising-projects-with-significant-lithium-potential-amongst-its-extensive-land-position-in-the-james-bay-area/) and Azimut Exploration (AZM-V) holds 174,100ha (3,370 claims) (https://azimut-exploration.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/azimut-pr-20230123.pdf), among other.
?
Regional targeting: The new staking is a direct result of targeting by statistical processing of >13,400 analyses of lake bottom sediments from SIGEOM (https://sigeom.mines.gouv.qc.ca/signet/classes/I1102_indexAccueil?l=a)?and the knowledgeable Harfang exploration team with Fran?ois Huot and Jerome Lavoie. Targeting focused on the combined geological assessment of the environment favorable for the occurrences of lithium and rare element bearing S-type pegmatites and associated granites with the statistical processing of identified lithium anomalies in lake bottom sediments.
New Claim Acquisitions: Acquired staked assets include the Lemare (220 claims), Ross (100 claims), Conviac (140 claims) and Sakami (204 claims) properties, and the addition of 62 new claims in the La Passe Property area. ?Very little evidence of systematic historical exploration is apparent in the area of these new land positions.
Lemare Property is located ~ 20km ?SE of the Whabouchi lithium deposit and includes several strong lake bottom sediment lithium anomalies forming a tight cluster in an area dominated by granites and pegmatites of the Opatica Subprovince.
Ross Property is located along the northern side of the Lac-des-Montagnes volcano-sedimentary belt in a geological setting similar to that of the Whabouchi lithium deposit in an area known to host abundant pegmatite dykes. We note that Midland Exploration (MD-V) has the Shire project to the south (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/midland-exploration-inc-md-v-provides-overview-its-2023-eric-lemieux/).
Conviac Property is located 70km SE of the Eleonore gold mine and was staked to cover the 3rd-strongest lithium anomaly calculated from the database. It stretches ~15km along the prolific contact between the La Grande and Opinaca subprovinces. The Conviac Property also has excellent potential for the discovery of gold mineralization similar to the Eleonore mine and Cheechoo deposit of Sirios Resources (SOI-V).
领英推荐
Sakami Property includes 2 distinct blocks 8km apart located near the northern border of the Opinaca Subprovince to the SW of Winsome Resources Cancet lithium deposit. Regional mapping has confirmed the presence of granites and pegmatites of the Vieux Comptoir Granitic Suite and paragneiss.
Growing La Passe: In addition, 62 claims grouped into 2 distinct blocks were added to the La Passe Property. The new claims cover a geological setting similar to that of the original property originally acquired in June 2020 (see:?https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/harfang-exploration-inc-har-v-new-gold-land-james-bay-eric-lemieux/) and recently expanded for the lithium potential (see again:?https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-lithium-activity-7021941620254068736-hZZ9?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). The acreage covers a series of pegmatite dykes associated with the Vieux Comptoir Granitic Suite. These dykes were intruded into metasedimentary rocks and paragneiss. Harfang believes the entire La Passe Property, located near the limit between the La Grande and Opinaca subprovinces, represents a highly prospective geological setting for the discovery of lithium-bearing pegmatites and gold mineralization.
?
Ian Campbell, President and CEO of Harfang stated: ?“The Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec is rapidly emerging as a North American lithium province comparable to some of the largest districts globally based on the occurrence of several deposits and recent discoveries. It will further benefit from the intensity of exploration this year and I believe there is a high probability that additional discoveries will be made throughout the region given the early stage of exploration in most areas. Importantly for Harfang is that many of our already existing and new targeted projects have overlapping potential for the discovery of both lithium-bearing pegmatites and gold mineralization”.
Harfang is currently planning its exploration program on its lithium and gold projects for 2023 and remains a dynamic project generator focused in the Québec Eeyou Istchee James Bay area.

UPDATE: July 23, 2023
Harfang to resume its summer 2023 field program in Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Québec
?https://harfangexploration.com/en/harfang-resumes-its-summer-field-program-in-eeyou-istchee-james-bay-quebec/
On July 24, 2023 Harfang disclosed that its field crew began exploration work on its Lemare lithium property in the central part of Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Québec. The Lemare Property is located to the SE of the Whabouchi lithium deposit and is accessible by the Route du Nord. ?The Lemare Property consists of 269 claims located ~22 km SE of the Whabouchi lithium deposit owned by Nemaska Lithium which recently signed a long-term agreement with the Ford Motor Company for the supply of lithium products, including lithium hydroxide. Harfang intends to conduct a first-phase surface exploration program (prospecting, mapping, rock sampling) for the discovery of spodumene bearing pegmatites. The Lemare claims were acquired by map designation following the geological assessment work that included a statistical processing of more than 13,400 analyses of lake bottom sediments extracted from the Québec government digital database (SIGéOM). Recall Harfang had announced on June 8, 2023 that its summer field campaign was set to commence on its portfolio of highly prospective gold and lithium properties in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region, once the forest fire situation would be under control. (See :https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-gold-activity-7072658294728708096-6qdB?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). The Lemare Property contains several strong calculated lake bottom sediment lithium residual anomalies of which four are ≥99.5th percentile of the entire SIGéOM database. Some of these anomalies form a tight cluster in an area dominated by granite and pegmatite of the Opatica Subprovince. The Conviac and Ross claims were also staked following this evaluation.
?
Ian Campbell, President and CEO stated: “We are pleased to report that the recent restrictions imposed by the Québec government as a result of the regional forest fire situation have been lifted in most of the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region and our field crew has been mobilized to resume the exploration program. This program is a “boots on the ground” approach including both a prospecting and geological evaluation. Access to our properties in the northwest of the region (Lake Menarik, Serpent-Radisson, Ewart, Sakami, Taiga, La Passe and Menarik East) is not yet authorized, but we are hopeful this situation will be resolved in the near future. We wish to acknowledge the continuing efforts to suppress forest fires and express our gratitude to those involved for their hard work under difficult conditions”.
?
Lithium Exploration Programs: Once the fire restrictions are lifted in the NW part of Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Harfang plans to resume its exploration program on its gold and lithium projects. These are to include the Ewart and Sakami, projects who were also staked following the lake bottom sediments valuation. Future work programs of prospecting are also planned on the Serpent-Radisson and La Passe projects, with sub-set objective of finding Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum Pegmatite (“LCT Pegmatite”) targets. There are currently 17 major fires in the Province of Québec ( https://sopfeu.qc.ca/) and the 2023 fire season now totals 510 fires (1,503,138 ha) much above the 10-year average of 320 (15,703 ha).

UPDATE: May 2, 2024
LIFT Power defines a 13 km x 6 km spodumene-in-till anomaly at the Pontax Lithium Project, Eeyou Istchee James Bay, Québec
On May 2, 2024, LiFT Power Ltd. (LIFT-V) reported results from its summer 2023 exploration program at the Pontax Project and the Rupert Project, both in the ?Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec. ?Recall on July 21, 2022, Harfang had announced that it had entered into an option agreement with LiFT who had been granted the option to acquire up to a 70% interest in the Pontax Property (see : https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-pontax-activity-6955934282020175872-aOv9?utm_source=linkedin_share&utm_medium=member_desktop_web). LiFt Pontax Project (61,520 ha) is comprised of 100%-owned ground and ground under option agreement with Harfang. The Pontax Property was staked by Harfang in 2020 by map designation and is composed of 287 mining claims totaling 15,323 ha (https://harfangexploration.com/en/projects/pontax/). The Pontax Project is located ~220 km north of Matagami and is partially accessible by the Billy-Diamond Highway.
?
Confirming vectors: The summer 2023 surface exploration program by LiFT was comprised of geological mapping, prospecting, and glacial-sediment (till) sampling. Till samples were processed to look for spodumene grains within the till and results at Pontax revealed a 13 km x 6 km anomaly that has spodumene grain counts similar to till down-ice of the Whabouchi lithium deposit, located ~2 km NE of LiFT’s sampling on their Rupert Project.
?
Discussion of till sampling program: Till sampling for geochemistry or indicator minerals has been used extensively in Canada and other regions previously covered by glaciers in order to make discoveries beneath the transported sediment cover (e.g. Regnault (Au) (see https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/kenorland-minerals-ltd-kld-v-reports-preliminary-results-eric-lemieux/) and Chebistuan (Au) (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/kenorland-minerals-ltd-kld-v-reports-geochemical-results-eric-lemieux-1e/). The Pontax Project is located within an area that was inundated by the Tyrell Sea at the end of the last glaciation period. The surficial sediment cover in the project area consists of till overlain locally by Tyrrell Sea mud and reworked locally by littoral processes during subsequent regression of the sea (see: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/eric-lemieux-9468715_quebec-jamesbay-eeyouistchee-activity-7029159234319581185-9uiJ?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). Thick post-glacial organic wetland deposits cap the succession locally. The till has a silty sand matrix, contains abundant locally sourced igneous and metamorphic clasts, and is ornamented by various types of streamlined landforms that trend SW-NE, including drumlins, crag-and-tails, and tongue-shaped landforms. Till samples were collected from topographic highs where till outcrops can be found penetrating through the blanket of glaciomarine mud found in the lowlands LiFT Rupert-Pontax spodumene grain count sampling program was designed to test areas with anomalous till geochemistry for lithium. Samples were spaced at roughly 800m by 200m on the Rupert sampling grid. ?At Pontax, sample spacing along the line was 200m with sampling being taken where possible on topographic highs due to glaciomarine clay filling topographic lows. Up to 10 kg of till was collected from each sampling site and sent to Overburden Drilling Management for processing and spodumene grain counts.
?
Update on LiFt drilling completed in 2023:? During the summer of 2023, LiFT completed 12 diamond drill holes (4,069 m) to test lithium (+/- Ta-Sn-Nb) anomalies in till geochemistry to the north of the Whabouchi lithium deposit (Anomalies A and B on the Ruper Project). All drill holes encountered granitic rocks with lithium values ranging between 100-300 ppm, pegmatites with negligible lithium values, and mafic dykes that have are slightly enriched in lithium (300-700 ppm). No significant spodumene pegmatites were intersected and no additional drilling is warranted in that particular area.
?
Additional surface work completed in 2023: In addition to spodumene grain counts, LiFT collected 1,654 rock samples which returned lithium values of up to 0.56% Li2O (located within the Pontax Project). These values are not economic but are highly anomalous and indicate that a spodumene pegmatite system could be proximal. Anomalous values of tantalum, cesium, beryllium, and tins are associated with increased lithium values, especially in the Pontax area. One spodumene-bearing boulder was found within the spodumene grain anomaly down-ice of Whabouchi that returned 1.77% Li2O. This boulder is assumed to be transported from the Whabouchi deposit onto LiFT’s claim package and suggests that spodumene grains have also been transported from Whabouchi. 5,700 C-horizon matrix till geochemistry samples were collected on newly acquired claims and areas not sampled in 2022. Till geochemistry was used to vector into areas for additional sampling testing for the presence of spodumene grains within till.
A VTEM-Magnetics survey was completed to the NE of Power Nickel’s Lion Zone target (Wildcat discovery) on the NISK project (https://powernickel.com/nisk/). Power Nickel intersected 7.75 m @ 20.76 g/t Pt, 5.71 g/t Pd, 1.47% Cu, 13.1 g/t Ag, 0.28 g/t Au hosted within an ultramafic intrusive rock ~600m from LiFT’s claim boundary. The same ultramafic intrusive lithologies may be present on LiFT’s claims. Processing of the VTEM-magnetics survey has defined conductive-magnetic bodies at depth which could be massive sulfides target similar to Power Nickel’s Wildcat discovery.
?
Francis MacDonald, CEO of LiFT stated: “The size and strength of the Pontax spodumene anomaly is very impressive. We understand the expression of a large spodumene resource in till from our sampling results down-ice of the Whabouchi lithium deposit. The anomaly that we have defined at Pontax has similar amounts of spodumene grains in till, but we are seeing this anomalism over a 13 km by 6 km area in comparison to a 4 km by 1 km area down-ice of Whabouchi. The implication of this is that we believe there is potential for a large spodumene pegmatite dyke swarm buried beneath extensive glacial sediments in the Pontax area. The next exploration program will be tailored to narrowing this large area down to drill targets”.
