The Hard is What Makes It Great

The Hard is What Makes It Great

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all off to a great start to the day, to the week, and to the new month and quarter! What an exciting weekend for sports, and of course with fall sweeping in, there were a few "October-fests" going on. Our family got our fill of both, with a visit out to October Fest in Southlake, TX.

We had a busy weekend of sports too, our sponsored fighter for Crusade Combat Eliazar "El Oso" Rodriguez stepped into the Legacy 46 cage over the weekend. The fight was televised nationwide on AXS-TV. He fought hard and did well, but fell just short, in a decision. We watched the Rangers clinch the division; and barely stayed awake for the overtime loss by the Cowboys.

The postseason in baseball is my favorite time of the year for a few reasons, 1) cause its exciting baseball 2) its the start of Fall weather in TX and 3) All the movie channels, ESPN Classic, TBS, etc.... start playing all of the baseball movie classics. One of my favorite baseball movies of all time is "A League of Their Own"; Tom Hanks is phenomenal in his role as Jimmy Dugan; Manager of the Rockford Peaches, and past great ball player that had trouble with booze. He plays the character to perfection and because of this, some of the greatest movie quotes and lines ever.... come from his role in this movie.

Closer to the end of the movie and just as the team is about to play in the league's World Series; his star player/catcher Dottie Hinson (Gina Davis) quits the team. As she is leaving, separate from the team bus, he catches up with her and delivers an incredible speech. Directed of course at Hinson's love for the game of baseball and a comment she makes about it just "becoming too hard"; Hanks' delivers one of the most powerful lines ever, "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The HARD...is what makes it great!"

Right though?!! I mean the line most definitely resonates in my worlds of Physician/Nursing/Allied recruiting, in the sports business world, most definitely in mixed martial arts. Would you want it any other way? I know for me personally, I don't want to do a job anyone and everyone can do. I don't want that for my personal life either. That is better known as settling, and that just isn't how I was created...and it's not how you were created either.

I don't share a lot of my faith based words to this audience (LinkedIn), as I feel those are for other outlets outside of the business/political spheres. However in all "religions" there are similar phrases and or ideals. From the Christian/Jewish faith of "God will never give you more than you can handle"; Buddha, "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional."

In every path there are times that get hard. In life...in work....it can all get hard, overwhelming at times. So much so, that it drives tons of people each day to give up...to quit, not realizing that just after the hard, just after the lowest of the lows....that's where the biggest blessings are formed, that's when the payoff comes from the hard work and suffering that was put in.

Think back to anything grand in your life; accomplishments, awards, accolades, rewards, possessions, people...what you would consider your "valuables"..... I bet you can think back on how hard your worked to get those things.......and

I bet if you really sat down and thought about it, you wouldn't just see the hard work, but you would also see the hard times....the struggles that you went through.... rather...that you made it through.... to enable yourself to garnish these great things.

I know I can...lol. I think about the hard work both academically and athletically put in to play hs and college baseball. I know I woke up at 330am every day to get to the radio station by the 430am meeting and show call. For the first 6 months to a year....I did that for free, worked for 4 hours went to class, then went back to the radio station to try to get on someone else's show...or to be able to record a promo or do an event. I sold BMW's; and worked 40-80 hr weeks in recruiting to be able to purchase and make a home for me and my daughter, to take her on vacations, to Disney World, or down the road to Six Flags on a steady basis.

I worked really hard courting my wife! lol, but seriously I worked hard to be able to get in front of my model wife. I put in work so I'd be able to take her out, so I'd be able to do the things men should do for a woman when they are courting them. Dang right there were struggles, but now I'm married to my dream girl with an amazing family. You know what though, I still have hard times. I have two kiddos, 6 jobs, and not a whole lot of time anymore...haha...but I know when I come home, My Belgian Malinois Eva, is going to jump up on me and greet me, my Son is going to wobble/crawl to my legs and want to be picked up. I'm going to be able to kiss my wife, and then turn around to the front door opening and my 9 year old daughter will come thru after school, and will give me a hug.

The hard work, the hard times, the struggles, the times when I thought to myself I just want to give up, I just want to quit.....all....WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone's life is different....but we all go through our own "hard" that can be different from anyone else's definition of "hard". The "hard" in your life makes the good, the good in your life, makes the not so hard easy to overcome, and it opens the opportunity for you to breakthrough as a hero...even if its only being a hero to yourself...that's pretty important I would say.

If you're going through a hard time, you should always know that you aren't alone. Take in all the lessons, and keep going until you reach your big pay off. Remind yourself that the HARD...the hard is what is going to make the good...well good!

I hope you all have a great rest of your day and week.

Best regards,
